COSHOCTON – Courtney Sampsel, a junior in the early childhood education program at the Coshocton County Career Center, is pictured helping Head Start student Andrew Bridges put the finishing touches on his “gingerbread” house. Sampsel is a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club, which helped students from the Head Start career center site make healthy “gingerbread” houses on Dec. 19. The houses were made using crackers and flavored cream cheese. They were then decorated with healthier alternatives than candy such as pretzels, raisins and fruits. The FCCLA club includes students in the early childhood education and culinary arts program at the career center. This holiday season the education students also led a drive for hats and gloves that were given to the Head Start classroom at the career center. Head Start teachers will disperse the gloves as needed.

I graduated from Coshocton High School in 1998 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2002 from Walsh University. I also earned several awards while working for daily papers, including being honored by Coshocton County’s veterans for the stories I wrote about them.
