Kent State Tuscarawas is the perfect place for Jorryn Wentz to not only continue her education but also her softball career.

“It’s close and I knew I didn’t want to go stay on campus somewhere,” said the Ridgewood High School senior. “I know the coach there too, so I feel more comfortable.”

Kent State Softball Coach Chuck Peach has known Wentz and her family for a long time.

“She’s a good kid and she fits the mold of what I look for,” he said. “I look for someone that’s going to fit the team chemistry and stick with it. I think she is going to fit in great.”

Tracy Wentz, Jorryn’s mom, said she’s been around the sports since she was born.

“Her dad (the late David Wentz) played softball and she tagged along after her sister,” Tracy said.

Jorryn plays second and shortstop for the Generals and has great memories from her days on the field.

“I love to play softball,” she said. “I always have. I think my favorite part is the friendships I’ve built with my teammates and coaches.”

Tracy is excited for Jorryn’s senior season and what the future holds.

“She had a bad accident sliding the season before her freshman year and we weren’t sure she’d get back on the ball diamond,” Tracy said.

Jorryn’s advice to her younger teammates who also might want to play in college is to not get too down on yourself. She also emphasized the importance of paying attention to those who want to help you.

“If someone tries to offer you help listen,” Jorryn said. “If your coach is yelling he’s trying to make you better not be mean.”
