‘A Little Princess’ coming to McKinley Auditorium at CHS

Kris Hardesty is proud of the group of Coshocton High School students working hard to present the musical “A Little Princess” to the community.

“We had a really good turnout of junior high kids,” she said. “Everyone has been extremely faithful and for so many of these junior high kids it’s their first time doing anything like this. They were terrified, but they are showing up and doing it.”

“A Little Princess” is set in the Victorian era and is the story of Sara Crewe whose father is in the British Military. He has to take an assignment away and sends her to a boarding school in London. She was raised in Africa and struggles to adapt to her new lifestyle.

“It’s fantastical,” Hardesty says. “She (Sara) loves to tell stories. It’s part of her African upbringing and she is very good at it.”

One of Hardesty’s favorite parts of the play is the dancing.

“So many of these kids have never done anything like this and they are really working hard at it,” she said.

The cast for the play includes: Lillian Whitcomb, Peyton Crouso, Grace Hawthorne, Lynsey Stonebraker, Quincy Bussey, Teigue Hardesty, Anna Richcreek, Isabella Knicely, Hailey Logan, Eva Miller-Stanton, Camryn Kaercher, Lacey Richcreek, Taylor Keefer, Wesley Abbot, Trip Mills, Ashton Hoops, Alahna Thompson, and Jonathan Dorsey. There also is a crew of students working backstage to support the actors and actresses, one of which is senior Lyric Ganz.

“She’s worked a number of years behind the scenes and playing music,” Hardesty said. “I will be really sad to see her go.”

Ganz said her interest in special effects makeup led her to getting involved with the plays. Her first was in eighth grade when she helped make people look like statues.

“I love the environment and the people I’ve gotten to know,” Ganz said. “It’s a great group of people.”

In “A Little Princess” Ganz also is a percussionist.

“We get to play different African sounding music and it’s been fun,” she said.

Ganz is using this play to train her replacement and had a few words of wisdom to share with the younger students.

“Have fun with it and don’t stress out about it,” she said. “I’ve learned so much with this group of people and learned a lot just about interact with people.”

The Coshocton High School Theatre Club will present “A Little Princess” at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12 and at 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14 in McKinley Auditorium at CHS. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door or call 740-622-8519 for more information.
