Smith hired as CHS football coach
Steve Smith was hired as the new head football coach at Coshocton High School at the board of education meeting on Thursday, March 12.
Smith’s football coaching experience includes two years as co-offensive coordinator at Mapleton High School and 15 years as a varsity assistant at Coshocton including time as both the offensive and defensive coordinator. Smith served as the head varsity track coach at Coshocton from 2006-2011 while being named the ECOL Coach of the Year in 2010.
Smith played varsity football for the Redskins from 1994 – 1997 while being named as a captain his senior year. He also brings collegiate playing experience from Ashland University (1998-2001) where he played all five offensive positions for the Eagles.
Steve and his wife Analea reside in Coshocton with their two children Braxton and Corbin.
“We are very excited to have Steve Smith as our new head football coach,” said Tim Fortney, athletic director at CHS. “He brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience to our football program both as an assitant coach at Coshocton and as a collegiate player at Ashland University. Over the past 15 years in our district, he has proven his knowledge of the game and his ability to lead our coaches and our players. I am very excited for him and I epect our entire football program to move forward under Coach Smith’s leadership.”
