COVID-19 scams reported

| April 2, 2020

As we continue to work through the COVID-19 outbreak, the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the community of a few new scams being seen around the state.

  1. Scammers are trying to sell home test kits. There are currently NO APPROVED COVID-19 Home Test Kits.
  2. If you chose to donate, VERIFY the charity’s authenticity.
  3. EMA, Medical Professionals, CDC or Other Government Entities will NOT CALL or EMAIL YOU requesting personal information.
  4. Be aware that fake emails are being sent claiming to be from the CDC or other government entity that contain MALWARE/RANSOMWARE. Only open emails from TRUSTED sources
  5. Do not fall prey to scammers who pose as government officials who call, text or email asking for personal or financial information in order to get your Stimulus Relief from the Government.

The sheriff’s office also has made a few more changes at its office:

  1. CCW License holders that expire from March 9 until Dec. 1 of this year, they will remain valid and need not be renewed until Dec. 1, 2020. Emergency and new CCWs are still being handled with limited hours.
  2. All sheriff’s sales have been suspended until further notice.
