Coshocton KOA adjusts season

| April 14, 2020

When spring comes in and the weather warms up many people get excited for the camping season. Camping typically starts mid-April and slowly winds up to the summer season. For Coshocton KOA and other Ohio campgrounds, COVID-19 has postponed the normal camping season until at least May 1. While the staff at the KOA always look forward to the campers coming back in the spring, they’ve changed their current focus for a little while to make the most of a tough situation and help where they can.

Governor DeWine’s orders on April 2 closed campgrounds to recreational camping but allowed them to stay open for guests whose camper is their permanent residence. Coshocton KOA has opened their doors to these guests who need a place to stay until COVID-19 has subsided. They have kept offering their winter rates for long term stays through May to ease the strain on individuals needing a safe place to live temporarily.

Looking beyond the “stay at home” orders Ryan and Camille McPeek at the KOA know that things will not just pop back to normal overnight.  They’ve adjusted their season’s planning to make sure they’re keeping the community safe but still offering a getaway. As things start to head back to normal, they’re ready to make changes to still provide fun for families.

“Once we’re allowed to resume normal camping, we plan to modify our activities to be sure to keep our guests and staff stay safe” said Ryan McPeek, co-owner of the KOA. “We’re going to focus on providing outdoor nature-based activities where guests can have lots of room to spread out.” While their activities and operations will be changing, Coshocton KOA still plans to provide the level of service that keeps their guests coming back year after year. “Our staff want to keep working and our campers are ready to come out. It’s our job to come up with ways where we can all enjoy the outdoors and keep each other safe.”

The Coshocton KOA campground is located on County Road 10 and welcomes RVs, tents, and cabin stays. In addition to camping, they also host numerous festivals each year including the Coshocton Sunflower Festival, McPeek’s Mighty Maze, and the Beer Maze.
