RHS honors senior spring sports athletes
Ridgewood High School senior spring sports athletes didn’t get a chance to wrap up their careers, but their dedication to the orange and black is still being celebrated.Vinyls of the 17 students are now hanging in downtown West Lafayette. The project was coordinated by photographer and Ridgewood teacher Justin Seibert, school and village officials, community members, and booster members.
“This group of seniors is special,” Seibert said. “They were eighth-graders in the building when I started taking photos for Ridgewood. I was there for their first year in athletics and all the way up through now.”
Traditionally the seniors’ vinyls are displayed at home games.
“We wanted to do this for the spring athletes because people won’t have a chance to see their pictures,” Seibert said. “We want people to be able to see that they were involved in the sport and be seen as members of the team.”
Seibert is very appreciative of the teamwork that went into making this project happen.
“Mr. Maslowski made sure we did everything in a safe way, and Mr. Colvin and the coaches did a fantastic job of getting everyone ready for the shots we took,” Seibert said. “We did everything while practicing social distancing. We made appointments to meet the seniors on the field, and that was coordinated by the coaches and Mr. Colvin. I was able to use a long lens so I could shoot from far away and just give the kids some directions. The village (of West Lafayette) helped hang up the pictures, and the hardware we needed to do it was all donated. This was definitely a joint effort.”
Seibert said when it comes to West Lafayette and Ridgewood, you always get a feeling of family.
“With the flooding (that happened in June 2019) and everything else that has happened here, we have each other’s backs,” Seibert said. “I appreciate everything the community has done for (Seibert Studios) and was more than happy to be able to pay it forward.”
