Four local artists have joined forces to open Foothills Studio & Gallery in Roscoe Village.

The new studio/gallery is located below the General Store and will hold its grand opening and meet the artists event from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 12.

“We wanted a place to show our work for people to come and see that was also a tourist location,” said Carole Hunt. “It’s beautiful here.”

Three of the artists were already partners in a gallery in Zanesville, but they wanted the opportunity to be closer to home. Each of them will feature their own unique style of art at the gallery.

“I do portrait art and do commission-based work also,” said Hunt. “I also do soul art which is out of my imagination.”

She’s been drawing people since she was a child and loves capturing the details that make them look like who they are.

“I like highly realistic, but I’ve been playing more with abstract,” Hunt said.

BJ Taylor works with oil and acrylics and is known for her work featuring barns and buildings.

“Art is just part of who I am,” she said.

Melissa Maxwell is known for her work with oils and paintings featuring flowers.

“I have two older sisters and we were always doing crafts,” she said. “Later on, I started painting with watercolors and now oils. I’m obsessed with flowers. I like to capture the sunlight on the petals.”

Maxwell also does encaustic paintings, which are done with melted beeswax.

Jack Hunt is a photographer and digital artists who enjoys producing works of mix mediums.

“I use Photoshop as a creation tool not just for editing,” he said.

One of Jack’s favorite subjects are barns.

“I’ll shoot one in the middle of the afternoon, but then paint what I wish I saw,” he said. “It may have been a barn in mid-July with no clouds, but it ends up being a barn at eight in the evening with a storm coming in.”

Jack added that they are all officers in the Coshocton County Artist Collective and plan to have guest artist participate in the gallery.

“It’s a nice place to share your work,” Taylor said.

Currently, two jewelry artists also are selling their pieces.

“Sometime in the future we hope to offer classes too,” Carole said.

Customers also will have the chance to catch them each in action working on pieces.

“We are a studio first and a gallery second,” Jack said.

“We plan to change out what is in here every four to six weeks,” Carole said.
