Chili Crossroads Bible Church offering summer camps for children
In a year when many camps and other children’s activities have been cancelled, Chili Crossroads Bible Church is providing a camp experience for children. Pastor Neal Dearyan and his wife, Julie, have a passion for children in the community. Neal said, “Julie and I were both greatly and positively impacted by summer camps in our youth and we want to provide a similar great experience for the kids in this community.”
For six weeks this summer, Chili Crossroads is welcoming children age three to sixth grade. The camp is held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, Monday through Friday. Each week costs $85 and extra hours may be available. Space is limited for each week, but the church will keep a waiting list for those who are interested.
Adventure Camp and Animal World have already been held with about 60 children each week. Activities included hayrides, water slides, making a bird feeder or a volcano, crafts, Bible lessons and lunch. Detective Week is July 6–10 and will include a demonstration from a K-9 unit, forensic workshop, laser beam obstacle course and many other fun activities.
Inventor’s Camp will be July 20-24 and will have a hayride, cupcake decorating, potato powered light bulb experiment and a waterslide. Wilderness Camp is July 27-31 and includes foraging in the woods, bouncy slide, campfire cooking, and design a tent. The last camp week will be Aug. 3–7 and is Art and Sports Camp. Baseball, soccer and football clinics will be offered, along with circle painting, extreme watercolors and 3D art. Every day at camp will be different, fun and exciting for all.
“Safety is our primary concern. We are following the guidelines from the Ohio Department of Health,” said Neal. “We installed a utility sink outside and require the children to wash their hands when they come into the building and when they leave the building throughout the day. We have small class sizes and have divided our auditorium into four rooms with dividers for the children’s safety.”
Every area is cleaned several times throughout the day and each class only has nine children. The bounce house and playground are also sanitized frequently each day. “Children have been cooped up for months and they need summer camp,” said Neal. “When the Ohio Department of Health published their guidelines, we adapted our plans and embraced the guidelines and continued forward for the benefit of the children. We have a bunch of incredible, dedicated people in the church who are working very hard to make this the best summer ever for these kids.”
