United Way of Coshocton introducing new fundraisers that support local

They won’t all be gathered in one spot this year, but United Way of Coshocton County is still doing its part to support those who have shared their culinary skills at the annual Taste of Coshocton.
“When we decided to not have the Taste of Coshocton (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) the board wanted to do something to support the restaurants that have been so supportive of us,” said Lyn Mizer, director of United Way. “Beccy Porteus came up with an idea off the top of her head to support shopping local.”
Gift card drawings for impACT Wednesdays will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5, Wednesday, Aug. 19, and Wednesday, Sept. 2. Make a purchase at participating locations the week before and receive a ticket to be entered in the drawing. Each week five $10 gift cards will be awarded from the participating businesses. The Aug. 5 participants are: Coffee Connection, Mayor’s Corner, Schumaker Farms, Papa John’s Pizza, Real McCoy BBQ, Yucatan, and Amici’s Pizza. The Aug. 5 drawing will feature: New Castle Farmhaus, Hannah Marie’s, Pearl Valley Cheese, Whit’s Frozen Custard, Lava Rock Grill, and Katie Bakes. The Sept. 2 prizes will come from the Café at Medbery, Olde Thyme Country Market, Legacy Lanes, Hardee’s, Warehouse Steak N Stein, and Ridgewood General Store.
“WTNS agreed to do live remotes from here (the United Way office) to announce the winners and we are encouraging the businesses to come pull their own winners,” Mizer said.
The grand prize winner will receive a Kid’s America year membership. This prize will be awarded at the First 0.5K For United Way event planned for Saturday, Sept. 12.
The 0.5K is being promoted as, “The race for the rest of us!” Race time is 11 a.m. and it will begin and end at the Warehouse Steak N Stein in Roscoe Village.
“We are going to have someone dressed as an umpire or referee who will fine you if you walk too fast or sweat,” Mizer said. “Racers will start at the Warehouse patio, turn left and walk toward the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum and COTC, cross the street and come back to the patio. The distance is 546 yards, or five and a half football fields.”
Costumes and face masks are encouraged. Registration will be limited to 100 in order to maintain social distancing. Those who register by Sunday, Aug. 16 will receive a free t-shirt. A free picnic lunch on the patio also will be provided by the Warehouse, there will be prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a free chocolate kiss station. The event will be held rain or shine.
Registration is $25 and can be completed by visiting www.coshoctonunitedway.org. Anyone interested in sponsoring the event may also do so for a cost of $250.
The 0.5K For United Way will officially kick off the 2020-2021 fundraising campaign, which is being sponsored by McWane Ductile.
