Main St. Station owners excited to be a part of the community

Tammy Alverson and Walter Bergeron were actually looking at another piece of property to open a restaurant but decided to take a chance and check out an auction on Main Street, which led them to a home for their Main St. Station.
“The place was packed when we came to the auction, but there were only two of us bidding,” Bergeron said. “This had already been a restaurant, and the other building we were looking at hadn’t.”
They ended up purchasing the building at 442 Main St. that had once been The Yard.
“This had been known as The Yard for a long time, and we really wanted to make it our own and offer food that you can’t get anywhere else in town,” Bergeron said.
The family-friendly restaurant offers a wide variety of food featuring pizza, pasta, steaks and seafood.
“We have an emphasis on seafood, but there really is something for everyone,” Bergeron said. “Our salad dressings, soups, marinara sauce and desserts are all homemade. Even if you just want dessert and a cup of coffee, we want to be that place for you. We looked at menus of other places and tried to make sure we were doing something different, so we aren’t all serving the same thing.”
The decor also is as unique as the menu. One side of the restaurant has a train theme, and the other is called the Carolina Room. If you look at the signs on the back wall, you can tell if you are taking track one south to places like Wilmington and Garden City or track two to Pittsburgh, Baltimore and New York.
Bergeron said Alverson’s family was in the restaurant business, and she worked through college in restaurants. “She’s always wanted her own,” he said. “This is a dream come true for her.”
Bergeron came to Coshocton in 1994 after serving in the military and living in several other places.
“Coshocton is home to me,” Bergeron said. “We know if there are more choices, more people will come to Coshocton. We want to help revitalize the community and downtown. The community has greeted us with open arms, and we are so grateful for everyone’s support.”
Tiffany Swigert at the Port Authority has been a tremendous help and so has Amy Crown, Kirby Hasseman and other restaurant owners. “They’ve promoted us on their pages, and that’s been a big help,” Bergeron said.
Main St. Station is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4-9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Takeout is available. They are closed right now on Sundays, but in the future Bergeron would like to possibly offer special family-style meals on that day. They also are working on their banquet room and are hoping to soon be able to serve alcohol, but right now customers are welcome to bring their own wine or beer.
“We want Coshocton to thrive and everyone to do well here,” Bergeron said.
