Almost 25 years ago Trish Melnichenko replied to an ad in the paper and over time became a jack of all trades at the Coshocton Veterinary Clinic.

“I think my farming background made a big difference in getting the job,” Melnichenko said. “I’ve done everything here from step one to helping with surgeries.”
Melnichenko said goodbye to her four-legged and two-legged friends on July 30 when she retired. “I’m going to miss the people and the puppies,” she said. “There is nothing better than puppy kisses.”
Over the years Melnichenko enjoyed meeting new people, and her days were never the same.
“It was always something interesting,” Melnichenko said. “I’ve helped with C-sections, taken tumors out of dogs, and watched them go up the steps hours later and seen my own dog jump in the vehicle after an amputation. It’s amazing how fast they bounce back. They have pain, but it’s not the same as it is with humans.”
Melnichenko has learned a lot over the years, especially about taking the time to watch and listen to people. “People have different attitudes, and you get to learn those with time,” she said.
Melnichenko’s patience and caring was noticed by many over the years. “I had people give me gifts for my retirement, and one was from someone who hadn’t been in here for five or six years,” she said.
Melnichenko and her husband were both able to retire while they were young and plan to make the most of their free time and catch up on work around their farm.
