So much to write about, so little space and even less time
Yep. That’s the truth. While some weeks it is more challenging to put together a column that neither offends nor crosses any of the many great divides in today’s culture, this week is not that week.
Folks are coming to Cleveland. Some really important people actually. Oh sure, I know that President Trump and former Vice-President Joe Biden are headed to the city by the lake but I’m talking about the guys in pinstripes. Yes, the nemesis of the Indians, the New York Yankees, are in the playoffs and are playing the Tribe on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Progressive Field. Now, I am writing this on Monday – so – that means it could be over when you read this, or we are headed to game three. The wildcard playoffs are a best of three this year. Put Bieber on the mound and game one is in the bag.
And did you know, the Reds are in the playoffs too! The Redleg’s won five straight to end the regular season and will face the Atlanta Braves in their playoff set. The Pirates stumbled through the season but have a serious contender for the National League rookie of the year in Ke’Bryan.
It’s on to the Coshocton County Fair! We all know that the fair will look very different than past years with no rides, no grandstand (there is some harness racing!) no art hall, no grange hall, no commercial buildings and so on. There will be lots of food vendors and you can’t get much better than that. Based on the responses from the youth that competed in the junior fair king and queen contest on Sunday, the Stromboli is at the top of the list. But really, is there any bad fair food? I say no! You can find the ad that lists the various foods in this issue of “The Beacon.” The days and hours are somewhat limited so be sure you are aware of the schedule before heading to the fairgrounds.
In fact, this is our annual Coshocton County Fair issue and we want to thank all of the businesses and organizations in our community that helped make it possible with their advertising. Thank You!
Congratulations to the 2020 junior fair king and queen; Luke Massie and Dilyn Tumblin. Congrats also to the king candidates Gage Haines and Cal Shrimplin. We can all be proud of this group of young people.
Let’s wish all of the young folks from area 4-H clubs and FFA chapters the best of luck at the fair. It will be quite different as we all know but let’s be appreciative to everyone that worked so hard to make it possible that there even is a Coshocton County Junior Fair in 2020.
