Cannon takes high honors in goat show
Hunter Cannon, a 16-year-old student at River View High School and Active Achievers 4-H participant, dominated at the 2020 Coshocton County Fair on Saturday, Oct. 3 as he presented his goats during the junior fair. Cannon didn’t just show his goats for Judge Doug Bayliss, a breeding sheep judge, market lamb judge, wool judge, and certified meat goat judge from Rushsylvania, Ohio, but he also walked away with high honors.
After placing first in the Dairy, Meat and Meat Cross Wether sub class 2 and sub class 3 events, Cannon said he was excited about his win and was feeling confident he had a Grand Champion. And, sure enough, his goat from sub class 3 won Grand Champion Market Goat and his sub class 2 goat won Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat. In addition, Cannon and his goats also took first place in the senior meat kid doe and meat adult doe events. He also was awarded Champion Junior Meat Doe, Champion Senior Meat Doe, and his class 3 goat won Best Meat Doe of Show.
Laney Mizer, a Winner 4-H club member, won first place in Dairy, Meat and Meat Cross Wether sub class 1. Second place went to Macey Mizer also a member of the Winner club. This-N-That member, Clyde Bintz took third place followed by fellow club member, Laura Bintz, who took fourth. Members of Hooves, Hands and Hearts 4-H club Brandon Karr and Brianna Karr placed fifth and sixth while Millfork Valley member, McKenna Collins took seventh.
The sub class 4 rankings were as follows. Cameron Collopy from Premium Ag Kids won first place. Second place winner was Conner Webster with Raising Champions 4-H club. This-N-That member, Emily Fechuch took third. And, Extreme Achievers club members, Anna Troyer and Andrew Troyer placed fourth and fifth.
In the Beginner Goat Pack Class Clare Bintz from This-N-That 4H club won first place. Isabella Crider from Mohawk Valley 4-H club came in second. Raising Champions 4-H club member, Conner Webster placed third. Kaylee Brehm from Hooves, Hands and Hearts took fourth. Millfork Valley 4-H club member, McKenna Collins placed fifth, and Jonah Dunfee from Active Achievers won sixth.
In the Experienced Goat Pack Class, Mohawk Valley 4H club member, Isabella Crider won first place with Taylor Brehm from Hooves, Hands and Hearts taking second. The Meat Junior Kid Doe winners were Nathan Adams from Keene Kountry Kids who took first place, and Brianna Karr with Hooves, Hands and Hearts came in second place.
The Home Bred, Born and Raised Market Wether rankings were as follows. Conner Webster with Raising Champions was awarded first place. Second place went to Clare Bintz with This-N-That. Third place winner, Nathan Adams, was with Keene Kountry Kids. Clyde Bintz with This-N-That was the fourth place winner. Fifth went to Zoey Lambert from Hamilton Valley Hustlers. Hooves, Hands and Hearts club members Braylon Karr, Brianna Karr and Brandon Karr were the sixth, seventh and eighth place winners.
Conner Webster was the Grand Champion Home Bred winner, and Clare Bintz won the Reserve Champion Home Bred title.
Keene Kountry Kids club member, Nathan Adams won first place in the Meat Junior Kid Doe showing, and Brianna Karr from Hooves, Hands and Hearts came in second.
Hunter Cannon from Active Achievers placed first in both the Meat Senior Kid Doe and the Meat Adult Doe while Conner Webster from Raising Champions took second place, and Active Achievers club member, Benjamin Dunfee placed third in both categories.
In the Dam and Daughter category, Benjamin Dunfee from Active Achievers 4-H club took first place, and Keene Kountry Kids member, Nathan Adams secured second place.
The Pygmy Goat show began with the Senior Wether Goat category where Brayleigh Cox, a Country Kids 4-H club members was the only participant to showcase her goat. The Adult Pygmy Wether category was next. First place went to Winner club member, Brynlyn Conrad. Second place was awarded to Cordell Besser with Raising Champions. And, Hooves, Hands and Hearts club members Kaylee Brehm and Taylor Brehm won third and fourth.
Megan Roberts from Pacesetters won first place in the Pygmy Senior Kid Doe category while second place went to Brayleigh Cox from Country Kids. Only one pygmy goat was shown in the Adult Pygmy Doe category. Megan Roberts from Pacesetters won in that category and also won Best Pygmy Doe of Show.
In the Pet Goat Show, Cordell Besser with Raising Champions came in first place, followed by Hooves, Hands and Hearts members Kaylee Brehm and Taylor Brehm in second and third. Fourth place winner, Savannah Shepler is a member of the Good-Times 4-H club. Brynlyn Conrad with the Winners club came in fifth place. Cordell Besser received the honor of Champion Pet Goat winner for the evening.
Isabella Crider from the Mohawk Valley club was the only one to show in the Dairy Goat Show and won Champion Junior Dairy Doe, Champion Senior Diary Doe and Best Dairy Doe of Show.
