Audrey J. (Severns) Stokes

| December 11, 2020

There is an emptiness in the hearts of the family and friends of Audrey J. (Severns) Stokes of Dresden. On Thursday morning, Dec. 9, 2020, our beloved friend departed the land of the dying for the land of the living.

Born Jan. 11, 1930, in Trinway, Ohio she was a daughter of the late Leander Ralph and Lula Belle (Lacy) Severns and was a graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. Audrey was proud to be a farmer’s wife and devoted mother. Her days were dedicated to sewing her children’s clothes, cooking homemade meals from the produce grown in her gardens and emphasizing the value of education.

Audrey was a lifetime member of Trinway United Methodist Church where she served as a delegate to the East Ohio Annual Conference at Lakeside, Ohio for several years. She enjoyed small town life, if there was a gathering in her community you would find Audrey attending. Her friends and the activities at the Dresden Senior Center became a second family. She traveled and socialized with the Sonshine Gals and the Roscoe Village walking group. Audrey and her late husband, Ivan, hosted their family’s annual Stoketoberfest on their farm. At these gatherings, younger generations experienced first generations farm life.

Surviving are her two sons, Dr. William James (Suzy) Stokes of Florida and Timothy Dean (Jeanie) Stokes of Coshocton, Ohio; a daughter, Cathy (Dr. Larry) Hinkle of Louisville, Ohio; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Bumpus of Frazeysburg and Joyce Stokes of Ashland; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Stokes, Jr., whom she married on Dec. 28, 1947 and whom died on Dec. 15, 2006; a son, Dennis Ivan Stokes; a great-grandson, Joshua Stokes; and a sister, Betty Foster.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trinway United Methodist Church, 12750 Second Ave., Trinway, OH 43842.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the family has requested a private service for the immediate family to be held.  They appreciate all thoughts and prayer, but wish to keep everyone safe and healthy at this time.

Audrey will be laid to rest next to her husband and son at the Frazeysburg Cemetery, Frazeysburg, OH.
