James ‘Jim’ Karas

James “Jim” Karas, 68, of Coshocton passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio on Sept. 22, 1952 to the late Elmer and Dorothy (Lucas) Karas.

Jim graduated from Guernsey Central Catholic High School and worked in Coshocton for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier for 33 years before retiring. After retirement he was working part-time at Richard Downing Airport. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and the Sportsman’s Club. He was very social and active in the community. He also enjoyed hunting, walking, and riding his bicycle in his free time.

Jim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jan (McDonald) Karas; children Andy (Lindsay) Karas of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and Krissy (Adam) Durant of Zanesville, Ohio; grandchildren Eric, Kaden, Penny, and Fletcher; siblings Michael Karas, Mary (Jim) Sivard, Carol (Joe) Palumbo, Janice Trace, and Bob Karas; his dog, Sadie; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings Ed Karas and Dorothy Kertel.

Per Jim’s wishes there will be no services at this time and a cremation will take place.  Memorial contributions can be directed towards Sacred Heart Church, 805 Main St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812.
