For anyone looking for a special “magical” treat for Valentine’s Day, hot chocolate bombs are one of the hottest treats right now.

Hot chocolate bombs are a chocolate shell that has cocoa and marshmallows inside. The bombs are simply dropped into a cup and warm milk poured over it.  The shell melts and all of the marshmallows float up. Tana Fischer, from Tana’s Tasty Treats, said the bombs can also be melted with water or coffee.

“I first saw a cocoa bomb online this past fall. Right away, I knew I could have a lot of fun with the flavors and designs but it also fit nicely into my product line with chocolate peanut butter Buckeye candy,” said Fischer. She offers several flavors of cocoa bombs including milk chocolate, coffee mocha, white chocolate, peppermint and others.

“I had no idea they would become such a hit. I offered them in three local stores, and they sold out within minutes of delivery, sometimes before I even left the store,” said Fischer. “The attraction to the cocoa

bombs, I believe, is because it’s more than a great looking yummy treat – it’s a fun experience to share.” Fischer will be offering Valentine’s Day cocoa bombs and they can be ordered thru Tana’s Tasty Treats Facebook page.

Thirteen year old Ava Kulbacki started making the hot chocolate bombs in early December. Sara Kulbacki, her mom, said, “At first, she just wanted to make enough to give as gifts to her friends and to have a few for us to enjoy over the holidays. We ended up having a couple friends ask us if we would make some for them.” Ava decided to take orders so she could earn money to buy Christmas gifts.

Sara said they made a few, discovered Ava was good at making them and posted on Facebook. “We couldn’t hardly keep up with the demand.  I actually had to stop taking orders a couple different times just so we didn’t get too far behind.” Ava ended up making more than 500 cocoa bombs over the Christmas holiday.

“I think what makes them so popular is the fact they are so cute, they make the most delicious hot chocolate and the fact that they’re kind of magical. Kids love them,” said Sara. Ava will be making Valentine’s Day cocoa bombs and they can be ordered through Sara Kulbacki’s Facebook page.

Katie Hultz, owner of Katie Bakes, said her cocoa bombs are made with premium chocolate coating in milk, dark and white chocolate. “They are filled with my homemade cocoa blends and also a homemade shaped marshmallow.” Hultz said she is working on more flavors but now she offers white cocoa, caramel cocoa and regular cocoa in the shells.

“A lot of people ask about putting my bombs in milk, but due to the high quality and creamy ingredients put into my homemade cocoa mix, there is no milk required.” She will also be offering Valentine’s Day cocoa bombs and they can be ordered on the Katie Bakes Facebook page.
