Irene Clara Russell

Irene Clara Russell, 86, of Newark, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021. She was born on Dec. 28, 1934, in Coshocton, to the late Everett and Hilda (Sayre) Smith.

Irene graduated from Coshocton High School in 1952 and was a homemaker and caregiver most of her life. She was a member of Park United Methodist Church, the Coshocton Moose, the Dover VFW Post 3463 and the Newark Eagles 387. She enjoyed collecting antiques and going dancing.

On July 11, 1978, she married Edward Russell who preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2005.

Irene is survived by her son, Michael (Marsha) Reiss of Coshocton; step-daughter, Brenda (Steve) Billman of Newark; very special dear friend, George Marovich of Newark; many grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Margie Smith and Rose Ann Sayre; special niece and nephew, Sue (John) Hayes and Phil (Gretchen) Smith, along with many other nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Carol Fantine.

Along with her parents, Irene is preceded in death by her two brothers, Gilbert and Glenn Smith.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m. at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. Due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19, social distancing measures will be in place and there will be a limited number of people inside the funeral home at a time. We also ask that you please wear a facemask at all times for the health and safety of our guest and employees.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Lloyd Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomerstown.
