RVHS swimmers advance to state

Fourteen River View High School swimmers competed in their district championship meet on Feb. 18, 2021 at Bowling Green State University. The top two in each event earned automatic state championship berths, and the top eight places were awarded medals.

The Black Bears had 14 medalists overall, including the boys’ 200 free relay team which advanced on to the state meet, and the boys finished second overall in the district as a team.

Making their way to the podium in relays was the first place 200 free group of Reas Pepper, Brayden Karr, Zachariah Phillips, and JT Roberts with a new school record yard time of 1:32.19, which included a school record 50 yard time from Pepper (22.82), the fourth place 400 free of Pepper, Brady Philabaum, Karr, and Coen Bible with a time of 3:29.79, which included a school record 100 yard time from Pepper (50.40), and the sixth place 200 medley of Luke Massie, Phillips, Cole Tatro, and Roberts with a time of 1:45.44.

Medaling in individual events were Reas Pepper, who was fifth in the 50 free with a time of 23.20, and Cole Tatro, who placed sixth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.69.

In additional events for the boys, Bible was 18th in the 200 free (1:56.28), with Philabaum 22nd (2:04.17). Roberts was ninth in the 50 free (23.35), and Phillips was 16th (23.58). Tatro was ninth in the 100 fly (57.10), with Colin Addy finishing 21st (1:02.67). Pepper was 9th in the 100 Free (50.54), with Bible 14th (51.88) and Karr at 23rd (53.94). Massie was 11th in the 200 IM (2:15.70) and 12th in the 100 Back (1:00.20), and Karr was 13th in the 100 Breast (1:07.19), with Phillips 14th (1:08.01).

For the girls, the 200 medley relay group of Carolyn Cox, Britton McCoy, Raychel Smalley, and MaryAnn Lozowski placed 14th with a time of 2:10.48, and the 200 Free Relay of Cox, Michaela White, Lozowski, and Smalley placed 15th with a time of 1:56.35.

The boys’ district champion relay will swim at the State Meet on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Canton McKinley High School.
