A Playground of Color to open
COSHOCTON – The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is delighted to present A Playground of Color featuring elementary school art from Coshocton County. This favorite community show features over 200 works, impressive expressions of talent, freshness and energy. This annual exhibit runs from Jan. 27 to March 17 and is also showing concurrently at the Coshocton and West Lafayette Libraries.
Artwork for A Playground of Color comes from students in kindergarten through sixth grade who attend elementary and middle schools in Coshocton’s city and county schools as well as from Coshocton Christian School and home school. Works are chosen by the students’ art teachers for their creativity and excellence.
The exhibit shows off a remarkable variety of artistic styles and media and includes both two and three-dimensional pieces. Students are learning about perspective, patterns, printmaking, Pop Art, and more, using watercolors, mixed media-collage, pastels and crayon. Their work is very good and, of course, whimsical as they explore a variety of art techniques.
The public is invited to the artists’ reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27. Admission is free. Enjoy the artwork and refreshments and meet some budding artists. During the opening reception students and visitors may also explore the permanent exhibit galleries.
Several children’s art and craft classes will be offered in February and March in conjunction with the exhibit: Shape Shifter Sculpture, on Feb. 10, Fingerless Mittens Crochet on March 9, and Ipod-sized Bags/Pouches Crochet on March 16. Reservations are needed. Classes are from 1 to 3 p.m. For information, go to JHM’s website www.jhmuseum.org , e-mail at jhmuseum@jhmuseum.org or call 622-8710.
A Playground of Color is sponsored by Dixie Fishbaugh. The Ohio Arts Council also helped fund this event with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. The Museum is open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children, and $8 for families. Wednesdays are free for Coshocton County residents.
