Addy advances to state, girls’ relay makes podium
Ten River View swimmers competed in the OHSAA Central-Southeast District Division II Championship Meet at Ohio University on Feb. 16. The top eight in each event were awarded medals, with the top three in individual events, and the top two in relays, earning automatic state tournament berths, with the remaining at large spots seeded by time from all four districts.
Senior Colin Addy advanced to the state prelim in two events by placing fifth, and breaking his previous school record, in the 50 freestyle (21.68), and sixth in the 100 free (47.88) while breaking the school yard record held by Reas Pepper. The girls’ 400 free relay group of freshmen Riley Gottardi and Lily Grewell, sophomore Britany Hammond, and junior Ally Fischer, also made the podium for the Black Bears, placing seventh overall (4:09.07).
Additionally for the girls, the 200 medley relay group of Fischer, Grewell, Gottardi, and senior Kam McGinnis placed 12th (2:07.54); Fischer was 12th (1:09.17), and Gottardi 13th (1:09.40) in the 100 backstroke; Gottardi was 14th (1:07.53) in the 100 butterfly; Grewell was 19th (2:35.73), and Fischer 22nd (2:38.03) in the 200 individual medley; and Grewell was 23rd (1:20.49), with junior Kynsingten McMasters 24th (1:20.69) in the 100 breaststroke.
For the boys’ team, the relay group of sophomore Kyle Roach, freshman JT Allison, junior Jamison Adams, and Addy placed 14th in both the 200 free (1:41.40), and the 400 free (3:50.98). In addition to Addy’s medaling in individual events, Adams was 15th (59.75) in the 100 back; and Allison was 28th (6:13.29) in the 500 free.
The state prelim meet will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the C.T Branin Natatorium in Canton. Addy is seeded 10th in both the 50 and 100 free events. The top eight will compete for the State Championship on Friday.
