Allen T. McCormick
Allen T. McCormick, 76, of West Lafayette, Ohio passed on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the Truman Hospice House in New Philadelphia. He was born on May 21, 1947 to the late Robert and Shirley (Couts) McCormick. He was a 1966 graduate of Ridgewood High School. On March 9, 1968, he married Dixie L. (Adkins) McCormick.
He entered the Navy on August 30, 1966 and served until May 1, 1970, as an interior Communications Electrician. Medals earned were: Most Action, Viet Nam Service, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign, and National Defense Services. After leaving the service, he worked at GTE until 1984, then he started his own business, Al’s Phone Service. Also is 1984, he started as a bus driver for Ridgewood Local School District, where he drove for 29 years and retired. He played softball for 27 years and then switched to golf.
Allen was a huge Ridgewood fan; he was part of the RHS class of 66 that started the black leather sleeves for the Varsity Club with the football team. For many years, and even after his children graduated, he continued to attend football and basketball games, where he sold 50/50 tickets for many years. He attended baseball games, band competitions, so many soccer games, and many wrestling matches, Boy Scouts events and was one of the biggest fans of his grandchildren. Being an FFA fan, he also spent many years working the hog shows at the Coshocton County fair. And on Sundays?! He was in front of the tv watching Nascar. He was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his mother-in-law, Shirley Carter, brother and sisters-in-law, Larry and Virginia Adkins and brother-in-law, Jim Harstine and Sean Wilkinson.
Surviving him are his wife of 55 years, Dixie, daughter, Shelley McCormick of West Lafayette, son, Bryan (Kim) McCormick of Dresden; grandchildren, Brandon, Christian, Keith (Courtney) McCormick, Chad, Brittany, Matthew and great-grandson, Ethan; siblings, Janet Harstine, Robert (Jonna) McCormick and Carol (Dean) Wears; In-laws, Pat (Steve) Lewis, Bill Adkins, Tom Carter and Mary (Bill) Robinson, many nieces and nephews along with special friends, Dave Bush, Bruce Shrimplin and Steve Murray.
Allen was a very social person and had many, many friends. Oh, and the Hardee Boys. Those guys had to be the best! He will be missed by so many. Thank you to all the knew him.
Per Allen’s wishes, a cremation will take place with the Miller-Kaser Cremation Services. No funeral services will be held.
