Together again

Barbara (Barb) Stewart Baker, 85, passed away on Oct. 12, 2021, at Grant Hospital, Columbus, OH, after a courageous fight with Covid.

Barb was born July 14, 1936, to the late Simon (Bud) and Irene (Kinney) Stewart. Barb was a 1954 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. On June 23, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart James I. Baker, who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2016. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Barb worked at Ohio Bell as a telephone operator. She also worked as a nurse’s aide for several years when she felt the calling to be a nurse and attended Muskingum Area Joint Vocational School in Zanesville and graduated August 1977 and passed her state board exam to become an LPN in November 1977. Barb worked several years at College Park County Home in Coshocton.

Barb loved doing all kinds of crafts and going to craft shows with her business “Dolls Etc.” She and her husband James were both avid Ohio Buckeye fans.

Barb is survived by her children and their families, James S. Baker, Christa (Jim) Walsh and Michael (Sheila) Baker, all from Coshocton. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bobby McCormick of Columbus; Jason (Kristy) McCormick and their children, Brice, Mackenzie, and Austin of West Lafayette, Indiana; Ryan (Stacy) McCormick and their children Alexis, Joey and Dillon of Coshocton; Andrew Baker; Cory Baker, and his children Finton and Sutton of Coshocton; Brayden Baker and Davin Baker of Coshocton; Renee (Jarrod) Dennis and their children Serena and Paige of Newark; Kelly (Robert Hough) Baker and their children Christopher, Veronica, and Cayden of Coshocton; James L. Baker and children Brent, Harley, Keegan, and Alyviah of Coshocton. She is also survived by her sisters, Janice Slaughter and Jane (John) Brehl, as well as several nieces and a nephew, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Barb is also survived by her loving dog Brutus.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law Tina Baker.

Calling hours will be held at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, from 6-8 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

Per the family’s wishes, masks are required to ensure the safety of visitors and guests.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barb’s name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 805 Main St. Coshocton, OH 43812.
