Bears headed to state finals with win over Beachwood

| November 7, 2024

Parker Andrews scored a goal in the second minute of the match as River View blanked Beachwood 3-0 in the Division IV State Semi-Finals at Dover’s Crater Stadium.

Andrews got past the Bison defense and finished on a pass from Hayden Walters. Andrews shot the ball off the right post to carom into the goal, sending River View fans into a frenzy at the Brick House.

“When we score early, that really gives us momentum,” said River View Head Coach Vince Andrews.  “We relax and we play the game that we are capable of playing.”

Play they did.  Right in to the state finals on Monday night, Nov. 11, at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus.

The Bears held a 1-0 lead at the half thanks to solid defense in the back and aggressive play in the midfield.

“They give us 110 percent. It’s been like that since last year when we lost in the regionals.” Coach Andrews said. “They just wanted this so bad. Now we’re going where they wanted to be.”

Walters made it 2-0 with a high arcing circus shot that he lobbed over the goalkeepers head from 35 yards out. It was Walters 38th goal of the season.

Andrews closed out the scoring with three minutes remaining in the match. Andrews took a pass from Cameron Murphy to put an exclamation point on the Bears victory.

The Bears will face Worthington Christian who defeated Cincinnati Maderia 1-0.

“We just got to keep doing what we’ve been doing,” Coach Andrews said. “It’s going to be the same type of game, but the pressure is a little more. I believe in these kids.  It’s family, it’s team, that’s how we do it.”

Kickoff is schedule for Monday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. at Historic Crew Stadium.
