Beat the winter blahs in 2017

COSHOCTON – Need a great gift for a gardener friend? Give them the gift of gardening fun and register for the Beat the Winter Blahs workshop series.

Join local Master Gardeners to learn more about gardening with fellow enthusiasts while getting out this winter and beating those winter blahs. The cost is $10 per person/ per session or $25 per person for all three sessions.

Registration deadline is one week before each session and a registration flyer can be found at http://go.osu.edu/2017blahs or at the OSU Extension Office (740-622-2265). Programs begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and are all held in Room 145 of the County Services Building at 724 S. Seventh St. Topics and dates are as follows:

Jan. 11 – Growing & Forcing Bulbs: Learn how to bring blooms indoors and take a dish of narcissus home. We’ll also go over growing hardy bulbs and how to force spring-blooming branches.

Feb. 8 – Bats of Ohio: Did you know bats are not blind and there are 13 species in Ohio? Learn more about our native bats, the good they do and the threats they face. Blueprints for building your own bat house will be provided.

March 8 – Growing Milkweed for Monarchs: All stages of the monarch butterfly depend on milkweed for their survival. Come learn more about growing different varieties of milkweed in your garden; take some seeds home and paint a pot for growing milkweed.
