Ben Harvey Avery
Funeral services for Ben Harvey Avery, age 81, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Geter officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM on Saturday before services begin.
Mr. Avery passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, surrounded by his family. Survivors include his wife, Karen Avery of Wedowee; children, Lisa (Bob) Fleenor of Cincinnati, OH, Fran Avery of Roopville, GA, Robert Avery of Carrollton, GA, Kevin (Jeannie) Avery of Bremen, GA, Terrie (Charles) Jett of Roanoke, and Dianne (Brian) Chambers of Franklin, GA; grandchildren, Brandon (Cara) Fleenor, Erin (Luke) Birk, Brooklyn and Haley Avery, Kyle (Jackie) Jett, Cory Jett, Arianna (Nash) Bender, Sierra Hutchison, Dakota Stafford (Shaia), Makayla Hutchison, Courtney (Steven) Fabian, Emma Sampsel, Drew Sampsel, and Phoebe Sampsel; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends. He was a “bonus” dad to Steven (Roxanne) Hutchison, Stacey (Andy) Sampsel, Tiffany Middleton, and Ryan (William) McIntyre.
Pallbearers will be Charles Jett, Kyle Jett, Cory Jett, Kevin Avery, Kyle Jett, Jr., and Liam Jett.
Mr. Avery was born on January 24, 1941, the son of Ben Robert and Lois Virginia Mapp Avery. He served his country in the U.S. Army and retired from Sony Music and Southwire. Mr. Avery loved hunting and fishing and football in the South, “Roll Tide” and “Go Dawgs.” He enjoyed canning, family gatherings, and good food. Anyone who spent any time with him loved to listen to the many stories he shared of life, love, and mischief. Mr. Avery dearly loved to be with family and friends around a table of food anytime, holidays, weekends, and game days. He never met a child that did not bring him great joy.
Mr. Avery was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Bobby (Sue) Avery, Charles (Nancy) Avery, and Maxine (David) Dunmire; “bonus” son, Larry Middleton; and his beloved dog, Ozark Singing Penny.
