Bernard H. Hughes Jr.
Bernard Henry Hughes, Jr., 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville.
He was born Nov. 10, 1932 in Licking Co. to the late Bernard Henry Hughes, Sr. and Mollie (Landis) Hughes. He was a 1952 graduate of Union High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He later served in the US Army until his discharge in 1961.
He was an oil well worker and farmer all his life. In addition to farming, he also enjoyed gardening at home, and selling Watkins products at the Coshocton Co. Fair.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Mary (Ripley) Hughes of Walhonding, whom he married Nov. 28, 1954; two daughters, Debbie (Glenn) Untied of Walhonding, and Lydia (Donald) Hague of Walhonding; two grandchildren, Mandy Wolfe (Ross Long) of Killbuck, and Cameron (Tiffany) Hague of Warsaw; four great-grandchildren, Danny Tipton, Harold Tipton, Clarissa Mathias (Steven Raber), and Brice Hague; and three sisters; Joann Moore of Mt. Vernon, Betty Jean (Ronald) Olson of Mt. Vernon, and Susie Elliot of Newcomerstown.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a great-grandson, Richard Tipton; two brothers, Eddie and Larry Hughes; and four sisters, Darlene Hughes, Nadine Olson, Margaret Willey, and Nancy Howard.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2025 at Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Donald Hague officiating. Burial will follow in Winding Fork Evangelical Cemetery in Perry Township, with graveside military rites by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard.
