Bertha May Eagon, 83, Newcomerstown, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 8, at her granddaughter’s residence in Newcomerstown..
Bertha was born in Fulton County, Ohio on November 16, 1929, and was preceded in death by her father, Mark John Peebles, and her mother, Viola M. Lund Peebles. She attended Wauseon High School and was a homemaker for all her adult life. Bertha also worked as a waitress for a few years at the former Luncheonette Restaurant, Newcomerstown, and also sold Avon products for many years. She was a member of the New HopeMinistriesChurch, Port Washington. Bertha use to bowl in the mixed couples league at Cy Young Lanes, Newcomerstown. She enjoyed playing BINGO, working with word puzzles, playing cards, collecting Avon products, and assisting her husband with the recycling of aluminum cans.
Bertha was preceded in death by husband Rodney P. Eagon, Newcomerstown, who died on June 27, 2012. Bertha and Rodney were married on June 21, 1953. Also deceased is her daughter-in-law, Dottie Lou Garrison, Fayette, Ohio. Bertha was also the last member of her generation of the Peebles family, as she was preceded in death by her sister, Alma Peebles Carney Stockum, Newcomerstown, and her brother, John Peebles, Wauseon.
Bertha is survived by her son, Marion J. Garrison, Fayette, Ohio (FultonCounty), and her daughter and her husband, Mary A. & David Moss, Newcomerstown. She also leaves four grandchildren: Mr. Ronnie Garrison, Morenci, Michigan, Veronica “Roni” Armstrong, Newcomerstown, Suzy and husband Heath Fowler, Coshocton, and Gina and husband Bill Gibbs, Newcomerstown. Also surviving are several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate Bertha’s life will be held on Monday, January 14, 11:00 AM, in the Ourant Funeral Home. Pastor Michael Crank of New Hope Ministries will conduct the services. Burial will follow at Everal’s ChurchCemetery, OxfordTownship, Coshocton County. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday afternoon and evening, 2 until 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM, and on Monday morning one hour before the 11:00 AM funeral. The family is requesting that memorials be made in Bertha’s name to an individual’s favorite charity.
