Betty J. Tomey
Betty J. Tomey, age 83, of Coshocton passed away at Signature Health Care from an extended illness. She was born September 30, 1939 in Circleville, Ohio to the late Thomas and Minnie Marie (Ritchey) Drum.
On June 18, 1960 she married William J. Tomey, whom she argued with but loved for 63 years. She retired from JII as a stripper (she always laughed at this) in calendar finishing after 25 years. Betty was a kind, compassionate woman who was also a champion of anyone whom she felt wasn’t dealt a good hand in life. She was a champion of women as well and much to the dismay of her husband would always take the side of a woman (especially her two girls) over a man any day of the week. She loved her family, her friends, and her dogs, especially her most recent, Foxy, who died in April 2022.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her son Edward Tomey and two sisters, Mary Virginia Gaither and Tommy (Larry) Cullison.
She is survived by her two girls, Marie (Bruce) Harrison and Jinni (Paul) Bowman; grandchildren Ian, Devon, Tristyn, and Ethan Tomey; Ashley (Jake) Skierkowski; Jill (Phil) Peters; Michael (Autumn) Bowman, and Claire Bowman; step-grandchildren, Chris (Heather) Harrison and Andy (Alex) Harrison; great grandchildren Olivia Tomey, Anna Skierkowski, Sophie and Burkley Bowman; step great grandchildren, Penny and Anna Harrison; two brothers, John (Eithel) Drum; James (Deanna) Drum; two sisters Esther Carlier and Michele (Jim) Dawson.
Betty also leaves behind special friends Pat Holmes and Sue Davis, an honorary daughter, Doreen Lambert, a granddaughter by choice, Autumn Dickerson, who was also her companion since April 2022.
Following cremation, a rosary service will be held at Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St. Coshocton, Ohio 43812 on Monday May 15, 2023 at 11:30am with Deacon Doug Mould officiating. Immediately following the rosary service, Betty and Bill’s family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life luncheon at the M Event Centre, 24688 CR 10, Coshocton. Please dress very casually because she wouldn’t understand anyone dressing up on her behalf.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter, 21755 Township Road 164, Coshocton, OH 43812. An online memorial is located at www.themillerfuneralhome.com.
