Black Bear swimmers compete at sectionals

The River View Black Bears competed in the East/Southeast Sectional Tournament swim meet along with 20 other schools on Feb. 13, 2021 at Steubenville High School. The boys’ varsity team placed second overall, and the girls placed eighth.

In the boys results, the team of Reas Pepper, Brayden Karr, Zachariah Phillips, and JT Roberts won the 200 free relay (1:33.45), Pepper, Brady Philabaum, Karr, and Coen Bible finished second in the 400 free relay (3:32.27), and Luke Massie, Phillips, Cole Tatro, and Roberts finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:47.32).

The boys also placed in the top eight in several individual events. Reas Pepper won the 50 free (23.27), and was second in the 100 free with a new school record yard time of 50.92. Cole Tatro was second in the 200 individual medley (2:15.09), and third in the 100 fly (57.20). Coen Bible was fifth in both the 200 free (1:57.40) and 100 free (53.09). Luke Massie was fourth in the 200 IM (2:17.06) and fifth in the 100 back (1:00.54). Brady Philabaum was eighth in the 200 free (2:03.37). Zachariah Phillips was fourth in the 50 free (23.69) and eighth in the 100 breast (1:12.08). JT Roberts was third in the 50 free (23.68). Brayden Karr was fifth in the 100 breast (1:08.16). Colin Addy was sixth in the 100 fly (1:01.45).

In the girls’ relay events, Carolyn Cox, Michaela White, MaryAnn Lozowski, and Raychel Smalley placed fourth in the 200 free (1:57.53), and Cox, Britton McCoy, Smalley, and Lozowski placed fifth in the 200 medley (2:11.36), and Lozowski, Piper Andrews, White, and Smalley were eighth in the 400 free (4:39.87).

Individually, Carolyn Cox finished eighth in 50 Free (28.98) and in the 100 Back (1:11.54) and MaryAnn Lozowski was eighth in the 500 free (6:37.61).

RVHS advanced 14 swimmers (nine boys and five girls) to the state qualifying district meet on Thursday, Feb. 17.
