Blooming Wildflower Pups opens in West Lafayette

Rebekkah Cottrell has always loved dogs. “Since I was a kid – they always bring so much joy into my life and others. Just being around them makes me feel happy and I want the dogs to know while they are with me they are getting all the attention, care and love.”  She recently opened her grooming shop called Blooming Wildflower Pups.

“I am by appointment only and offer one on one grooming. No crates are in my shop and the dog stay with me the entire time until their owner picks them up. I’ve been a groomer for two years, but have been learning longer than that by grooming all my friends’ dogs and my personal dogs. I got pet CPR and first aid certified and took some classes to learn more.”

Cottrell said she decided to open her own shop after being a stay at home mom for many years. “I wanted to do something I loved going back into the workforce. I spent many years in healthcare and I’m still a licensed phlebotomist, which I love, but I also love working with animals and being around dogs is something I want to do long term. I heard if you work a job that you would do for free then you found your dream job. With grooming, I absolutely have.”

Blooming Wildflowers offers full service grooming needs with add-on services such as painted nails, print out photos of the dogs, weekly client giveaways and different types of facials and hair coloring. “I also offer a variety of things for sale in my shop.”

She chose the name because she loves wildflowers. “I love the idea of wildflowers being involved with my business.”

“I honestly never knew I would love grooming so much.” She wanted to be a nurse when she was younger and also got involved with photography. “I started working with animals – giving them a bath or just taking their photos. I knew I wanted to do something with animals. Once I started grooming them and seeing how happy it made the animal and their family, I knew grooming was something I wanted to do long term.”

The shop is located at 101 West Railroad St. in West Lafayette. Cottrell is open Monday – Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and one Saturday a month, which is announced on her Facebook page. Appointments can be made by calling 740-610-5918.
