Burt Avenue Wesleyan Church is hosting a block party on Saturday, June 17. Burt Avenue between Walnut Street and Orange Street will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the party.

The church will have hot dogs, chips, and water. Chick-fil-A and a snow cone food truck will be there as well as live music, the church praise team will be singing throughout the day and a DJ to put everyone in a festive mood. The activities include, kids games and crafts, inflatables for the children, a basketball game known as Pop-a-Shot and a Disk Golf station.

“They are building a disc golf course here in Coshocton where Hilltop Golf Course used to be and representatives from there will be here introducing the community to disc golf. It will be a neat thing,” said Pastor Rod Uhlig.

The church will be open if people care to look around inside and visit the church sanctuary.

“We have done the Vacation Bible School program for children for several years,” Uhlig said. “We’ve tried different things where we went to Bancroft Park for Vacation Bible School, and we had Bible school at the Art Park on Main Street just to try different ways to do ministry. We held this block party last year in place of Bible school. There are so many churches in the area that do Vacation Bible School so we thought we would try something a little different and it went very well. We have shifted our resources to try a block party, and this is our second annual party.”

Uhlig said they’ve had a good response from people in the congregation wanting to volunteer.

“It has mobilized our congregation which is nice,” he said. “We want to be a blessing to the community, and we want to be a resource to the community that we serve. This is our way to connect. It is a one-day event for the family, a way to connect and be a blessing to the entire community.

From 1-3 p.m. Shane and Angie Pyle with Airmid will present Ohio’s Wildlife with live birds and animals common to this area.

Steve Mercer said, “It has something for everyone, if they just want to get a bite to eat and sit and listen to the music, they will be able to do that. We’re looking to be a blessing and give the community something positive to do in the neighborhood.”

Chick-fil-A requests that people use bank or credit cards, however they will accept cash.
