Burt Avenue Wesleyan Church plans community youth sport day

| June 13, 2024

Thanks to the suggestion from Hunter Dunlop, The Rock Ministry of the Burt Avenue Wesleyan Church will be hosting a sports day for all community youth on Saturday, June 29 at the Himebaugh Lot on Seventh Street. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon.

Vickie Davis, leader of The Rock Ministry, said the ministry is for children in third to seventh grades. “The name is based on Luke 19:40. ‘If we don’t praise God, the rocks will.’ We share together that kids can have a ministry and praise, as well. We present messages through a stick ministry, telling Bible stories. Whatever talent God has given us we will praise God.”

Davis said Dunlop came up with the idea of a sports day because he is good at sports and thought sharing sports would be fun with other kids from the community.

There will be several stations to take part in, such as basketball, soccer, running, wrestling, cheering and football. Children can try each sport and they will all gather at the end of the morning for a free sack lunch.

Joining the sport day is free to everyone.
