Carl Oden Besst

Carl Oden Besst, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at Prestige Gardens Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Marysville.

He was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Warsaw to the late Harold and Lois (Nowels) Besst. He was a 1951 graduate of Warsaw High School, and later the Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s in agriculture education. He taught vocational agriculture at Union High School and North Union High School in Richwood for many years. He was also a farmer until his retirement. He was a member of the Pharisburg United Methodist church, where he served as Treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Leesburg Twp. Zoning Committee for several years.

Carl enjoyed harness racing, and was an avid OSU sports and Cleveland Indians fan. He loved attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joy (Cooper) Besst of Marysville, whom he married June 12, 1955; three children, Roxie (Bob) Nauman of Marysville, Debbie (Mark) Rowland of Westerville, and Brad (Bonnie) Besst of Marysville; seven grandchildren, Angie (Chad) Landsettle, Tyler Rowland, Alli Rowland, Dawn Ferryman, Laura (Brian) Butler, Georgia (Scott) Roth, and Nichole (Matt) Maroscher; twelve great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred (Jim) Eberwine of Normal, IL.

A funeral service will be held at the Pharisburg U.M.C., 13317 OH-347 Marysville, OH 43040, on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Judy Cramer officiating. The service will take place outside to allow for social distancing, and a live stream of the service for those unable to attend will be available at the Fischer Funeral Home-Warsaw page on Facebook. Visitation is one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in Valley View Cemetery, 25390 SR 60 Warsaw, OH 43844.
