Catherine Elizabeth “Betty” Magness

Catherine Elizabeth “Betty” Magness, 101, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at Lafayette Pointe Nursing Home in West Lafayette.

She was born on Sept. 30, 1923, in Coshocton County to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Roahrig) Balo. She graduated from Conesville (Jefferson) Rural High School in 1941. During WWII she worked at Firestone in Coshocton making fuel tanks for B-24 bombers. On Nov. 17, 1945, she married Elba Magness. They were married for 53 years until he passed away on Feb. 17, 1998. Her and Elba enjoyed spending time on their family farm, showing horses and camping in their retirement. She had a great love for their Dalmatian, Tag. She was a member of the Conesville United Methodist Church and the American Legion.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Larry) Adams of Coshocton and Dee Howard of Colorado Springs CO; son-in-law, Rich Moran; grandchildren, Ashley (Wesley) Miller, Andrew (Lori) Adams and Sandra (Jeff) Ahonen; great grandchildren, Sidney Howard, Sam Adams and Jack Ahonen as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Elba E. Magness; daughter, Melba Moran; grandson, Trevor Howards; great-grandson, Raymond Howard, and four sisters, Mildred Ross, Annabelle Norris, Eloise Matt and Pauline Powelson and three brothers, David, Ralph, and Joe Balo.

Calling hours will be at The Miller Funeral Home on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 11am with Rev. Dairel Kaiser officiating.  Burial will follow in Coshocton County Memory Gardens.
