Celebrate Christmas with these local events

Live Nativity: Journey back through time to the Live Nativity, Dec. 7 – 9 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Coshocton Christian Tabernacle, 23891 Airport Rd., Coshocton. This 10-minute drive-thru event highlights various moments in the life of Jesus Christ such as His birth, walking on water, death, and resurrection. Event is free to the community.

Trying on Santa: The Pomerene Center for the Arts will host Trying on Santa on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Dress up in Santa’s dressing room, make toys in Santa’s workshop, and enjoy illustrations of one of the most beloved Christmas stories. Cost is $20 or $80 for a professional photo shoot.

Candlelightings: Candlelightings in Roscoe Village will be Saturday, Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. Gather by the stage to get your candle and experience the heartwarming Candlelighting Ceremony. For full details, call 740-622-7644, follow Historic Roscoe Village on Facebook, or visit www.roscoevillage.com.

Cookies and Crafts: Christmas Cookies and Crafts will be Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. – noon in the West Lafayette United Methodist Church parlor. Christmas Experience: Come out to the Christmas Experience with your child. Build and decorate a gingerbread house. Bring your best Christmas cookies for the Christmas Cookie Contest. Win $100 gift card. The gingerbread house decorating and Christmas Cookie Contest are free. Build a manger with your child. Small kits are $5 and large kits are $10. Pictures with Santa: Tractor Supply in Coshocton will have Pictures with Santa for pets on Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 – 6 p.m. Cost is $10 for a 5×7, $5 for a three-inch pin back button, and two free wallet-sized photos with a donation of food or litter to the Coshocton County Humane Society. Photos will be done by Amber Severt of Severt Photography.

Christmas Cabaret: The Pomerene Center for the Arts will host their annual Christmas Cabaret on Friday, Dec. 14 from 7:30 – 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 each. To make your reservations, call the Pomerene Center for the Arts at 740-622-0326.

Christmas Challenge: Our Town Coshocton is hosting a Main Street Christmas Challenge with a store front decorating competition. Participating businesses will hand out ballots to vote for your favorite window display. Votes can be cast until Dec. 15.

The Giving Tree: For $25, you can get a Christmas tree to decorate in the artPARK. Decorating commences on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. Judging through popular vote will be from noon to 4 p.m. A prize will be awarded to the winning tree. Working in conjunction with the Salvation Army, the trees and decorations will be donated to someone in need. Jingle Bell Jangle: The Jingle Bell Jangle 5K race will be Saturday, Dec. 15 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. starting at the Lake Park Canal Boat Parking Lot. The trail will be lit up with Christmas lights and other décor. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served at the finish line and the first 50 to register will receive custom heel spur lights. Overall winners male and female will be recognized as well as top three in each age group. Pre-registration is $25 and race-day registration is $30. Christmas for Kids: The fourth annual Christmas for Kids will be Dec. 16 from 1 – 5 p.m. at the Coshocton Community Center. They are looking for people who would be willing to sponsor a child. If you can’t sponsor but would still like to help, they need volunteers for baked goods, wrapping supplies, or with event set-up. Select an “angel” from Diana Weller, which lists the name, age, and likes of the child. All gifts need to be dropped off at ITM Marketing by Dec. 7. Please have a small wrapped gift for your child to receive from Santa at the party. The other gift will be sent home with the parents for the kids to open on Christmas. Bell Ringers Wanted: The Salvation Army is now hiring bell ringers, both paid positions and volunteers for the Christmas season. Applications are available from 10 a.m. – noon. Contact Capt. Vicki at 740-502-4966 with any questions.

Accepting Toys: Coshocton County Firefighter Toychest is accepting new unwrapped toys for low-income families in Coshocton County. Toys can be dropped off at Coshocton Fire Dept. on South Seventh St., Coshocton or Walhonding Valley Fire on Bridge Street, Warsaw. Monetary donations can be mailed to: Toy Chest P.O. BOX 133 Coshocton, Ohio 43812.

Christmas Cards Available: Everal’s Chapel Preservation Society is offering Christmas cards featuring a painting of the historic 150 year old Everal Chapel painted by local artist Peggy Snyder. The beautiful card is available in a pack of 10 for a donation of $20. All proceeds go to maintain the historic Everals Chapel. Card packs will be delivered free in the Newcomerstown area or can be picked up at the chapel by calling 740-498-5636 to get your cards in advance.
