Celia Pearl Cognion

Celia Pearl Cognion, age 88, of West Lafayette, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. She was born on March 5, 1936, in Cambridge, Ohio to the late William Moffett and E.  Viola (Wilson) Dunfee.

On September 13, 1952, she married Carl Cognion. She received her GED from the American School of Chicago and furthered her education, becoming a LPN, working at Coshocton Hospital for 32 years before retiring in 2001.  Celia loved nursing and taking care of her patients.

She was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church and a 65 year Grange Member. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, needlework, embroidering, cross stitching and doing sudoku puzzles.  Celia loved being with her family and hosting get togethers, especially during the holidays and she always looked forward to receiving cards in the mail from her family and friends.

Celia is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Carl Cognion. Four children, Sherry Cognion of West Lafayette, Cheryl Shroyer of Coshocton, Gary (JoLea) Cognion of West Lafayette and Todd (Darby) Cognion of West Lafayette. Grandchildren, Angela (JR Schaefer) Redman, Keven (Megan) Shroyer, Tamara (Kevin) Specht, Jordan (Teddy) Osborn, Cole (Stephanie Dempsey) Cognion and step-granddaughter, Milena Cognion. Great-grandchildren, Camron (Desiree) Redman, Christian (Ashley) Redman, Paige Shroyer, Peyton (Noah) Gainey, Lincoln (Kelsie Stephens) Shroyer, Mackenzie Specht and Katelyn Specht; great-great-grandchildren, Osiris, Zira and Wyatt Redman. Sister, June Moffett and nephews, Paul (Debbie) Stewart and Tim Belle.

Along with her parents, Celia was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Glen Jackson and nephew Dan Belle.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the Memorial Service on Saturday at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home.  A Memorial Service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:00 am with Pastor John Armstrong and Reverend Allison Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Plainfield Cemetery.
