Cheers Grill & Bar is open to the public
Residents and passersby may have noticed there is a new bar and grill located beside Plus One Pizza where the Army Navy used to be. The Army Navy moved locations and a local family bought the building and have opened their own grill and bar that is open to the public. Cheers Grill & Bar is locally owned and operated by Connie Gallagher and her family, and they want the residents of Coshocton County to know they are not a private club, everyone is welcome there.
Connie grew up watching the television show, Cheers, and she loved the idea of having a fun place people can come to and feel welcomed and at home. Opening a bar and grill has always been something she and her family wanted to do and now their dream has come true. “We wanted to try and bring a place of fun to the community” she said, “a fun place in Coshocton where everyone feels at home.”
In an effort to create the atmosphere they wanted, Connie, along with her husband Shawn, daughter Katelyn, sister-in-law Denise, in laws Sue and Greg Randles, Deb Gossett (her aunt) and others gathered together and started brainstorming ideas and painting and decorating. They made the projectors bigger, added a projector and added a sports theme. While the restaurant represents a variety of Ohio sports teams, they showcased each of the local schools and sports teams. Katelyn explained the family wants the local schools and sports teams to feel welcome to come before or after games, to hold parties or feed the team events. It is important to the family for the schools to know Cheers Grill & Bar is trying to sponsor events for the schools, and they welcome any contact from the schools.
That is not all; they also have a pool table, a pinball machine, a golden tee golf game, and a jukebox that patrons can play music from via their cell phones. In addition, they have cornhole games set up outside and tables, and they plan to add lights and tiki torches to the outdoor patio area. And, what’s a grill and bar without live music? They have a stage inside and space outside on the patio where bands can play live music, too. According to the family, the live entertainment has been booked both by bands contacting them and by them reaching out to bands to offer them dates to play. Currently, Connie and her crew are welcoming bands to contact them, so if you are in a band or you know someone who is, this is a great opportunity to reach out and schedule a date to perform live. The number for the restaurant is 740-575-4014.
Cheers Grill & Bar is not only open to the public but there is no cover charge to get in. Yet, there may be events, special events, such as the Halloween Costume party being held on Saturday, Oct. 30 where there will be a cover charge. For the Halloween Costume party there will be a $5 cover charge at the door, doors open at 8 p.m. and the first of four bands will begin playing at 9 p.m. This event is for individuals 21 years of age or older.
The bar also has scheduled Night Train for Saturday, Sept. 11. They will begin playing at 8:30 p.m. As with most nights, there will not be a cost of admission.
Every Wednesday night, 5-8 p.m. is Ladies Night with half priced Margaritas and $5.99 loaded nachos. Thursday’s are Biker’s Night where individuals can get a burger and fries for $6 all day. And, all day on Fridays customers can take advantage of the fish and fries special for $10.
The staff at Cheers Grill & Bar are working on other fun events and nights they can host, and the family is looking forward to football season. They have plans to host game nights where customers can come and watch specific games and where they can play fun games during breaks and half-time. “We want our customers to have fun. We want to make their experience one that makes them want to come back,” said Denise.
“We want to be known for having a friendly, fun atmosphere and for providing great service,” Katelyn said. Their menu also boasts a variety of food options from appetizers, to sandwiches with fresh cut fries, to salads, wings, a kids menu and more. “Best burgers around, hands down!” the family says. In fact, their signature burger is their Cheers Burger made up of two 1/3 lb beef patties with cheese on the top, middle and bottom buns, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, jalapeños and a choice of BBQ, buffalo or hot sauce.
Connie has had the support of her family and friends throughout this process, and because of them she was able to make her dream come true. She has also been able to hire a friendly, welcoming and fun staff, her own family. Her daughter, Kelsea Lillibridge and her sister-in-law Amanda Gallagher even come on the weekends to help out. The rest of the week customers will find themselves being served by Connie, Katelyn, Denise or another family member.
“I have a full-time job, but I love working here. It is such a stress reliever being here, and I think the people like me,” Denise said. “Being here is awesome. The food is golden, in my opinion. And working with these guys is awesome. The only time we saw each other before was at funerals and weddings” she added.
Denise Gallagher explained that she tries her best to make each customer’s experience a fun one and that she wants the community to know they are welcome to stay, even after eating and hang out, play games, and just have fun. “I like going that little extra mile to make someone feel special or welcomed,” Denise said.
