COSHOCTON – The Coshocton High School Astro Club planned an astronomy themed evening of fun for the community on April 21. From 8 to 11 p.m. the public was invited to enjoy free food, games, crafts and face painting and view stars through the school’s telescope.

The observatory for the telescope was built by one of retired teacher Jon Cotterman’s industrial arts classes several years ago and science teacher Lisa Akers was excited to share this hidden gem with others.

Just inside the school’s cafeteria visitors were met by seventh grader Alexis Caley and senior Alex Burton.

“We have a lot of nice activities going on,” Caley said.

Burton thought the star party was a great opportunity for the community to come into the school and support what students are doing.

Jason Kodysz, a science teacher at CHS and the club’s advisor, was impressed with all the hard work the students put into the star party.

“They were here until 7 last night (Thursday, April 20) and most of them were here from after school today (April 21) until the start of the party,” he said.

Kodysz got the club started last year after he realized there were students with an interest in astronomy.
