COSHOCTON – Surreal; that’s how Coshocton High School senior Nick Kirkpatrick described the experience of signing his national letter of intent to Youngstown State University on Wednesday, May 18.

Kirkpatrick, who is a four-year-letterman for the Redskins track program and a two-year -letterman for their basketball program, expressed that Youngstown State was the perfect fit for him.

“Youngstown is really nice and fairly new in terms of its facilities. Not to mention that they’re bringing in a lot of money right now with the recent addition of Jim Tressel, so overall I thought that it was a great place to go,” said Kirkpatrick.

While at Coshocton, he accomplished numerous feats such as placing sixth at the OHSAA State Track Meet in 2015, being named 1st Team All-Ohio in his junior year, and breaking the school pole vault record with a vault of 14’ 8”.

Kirkpatrick also expressed that although his accomplishments on the track are something he takes pride in, his most meaningful accomplishment would probably be signing with Youngstown State University.

“Some of my greatest accomplishments would have to be placing sixth at state my junior year and winning back-to-back ECOL Championships; but, signing Division I would probably top them all,” said Kirkpatrick.

While at college, Kirkpatrick intends to pursue a degree in marketing/business management while setting high marks both in the classroom and on the track.
