Church blesses others at Christmas Extravaganza

| December 21, 2023

The River Coshocton Church held a Christmas Extravaganza on Wednesday evening Dec. 20 for the Coshocton community. It was a traditional celebration with hot chocolate, cookies, singing Christmas Carols and gifts in celebration of the Birth of Jesus.

“We announced toys for kids in Coshocton, ages zero all the way to teenagers,” said Pastor Zach Weber. “We announced a car give away for anyone who needed a car. We had over 400 kids registered, many kids got to go through the line twice and got more than one toy and we gave away a car. ”

An anonymous person gave their car to bless someone in the church. The church also gave away cash prizes beginning at $500 on down, gift cards from area businesses and a lot of toys.

“We are blessed that we get to do this for the community, as much as it is a blessing for the people that come and receive,” Weber said. “For us it is a blessing that we get to serve Coshocton in this way. Jesus taught us it is more blessed to give than to receive. This is our opportunity to practice that. Jesus said, ‘What you have done to the least of these you have done it to me.’ In our mind at the River Church when we serve the people in this way, we know we are doing it for the people but we are also doing it for Jesus.”

Pastor Weber said all of the gifts were a miracle. “We had very little toys, didn’t have the finances, and we didn’t have a car,” he said. “We just started announcing we were going to do it and the resources began to come from everywhere. We believe that was an answer to prayer. Someone hands us the keys,  that was a miracle, the finances were a miracle, the toys were a miracle. We have no explanation for how we had this many toys. We were hoping everyone would get a toy but everyone got multiple toys. I’m telling you, God is alive, Jesus is real. You are sitting in a miracle tonight.”

Linda Weber said, “We want to bless the community, not with just material things, but bless them with the Gospel. We want them to know what Christmas is all about, invite them to church, pray for people who want prayer, and that is the most important thing. We want to reach out and show the love of Jesus.”
