Close to 300 children registered for fishing derby
Despite a rainy morning, hundreds of people lined the water at Lake Park for the annual Kids Fishing Derby on May 4. The derby is sponsored by The Coshocton Sportsman’s Association, Friends of the Park, and the Coshocton Park District. The event was free for the community and 280 children registered.
Each child registered received free bait, a hot dog, chips and a drink. They were also eligible to win one of more than 125 door prizes that included bikes, fishing tackle and other prizes. Grand prize door prize winners were Lilly Shingleton, Jasper Braxton, Madalyn Shingleton, Michael Schott, and Anna Seilor.
The lake was stocked with $2,500 worth of bass, trout, crappie and blue gill from Fender’s Fish Hatchery for the event.
The winners of each age group were: Girls, ages 3 – 6, Emerson Lewis with a 7 ¼” blue gill; Boys, ages 3 – 6, Justin Miller with a 13” bass; Girls, ages 7 – 12, Tylee Wood with a 12 ¼” bass; Boys, ages 7 – 12, J.D. Pahoundis with a 20” catfish and ages 13 – 16, Alana Menefee with a 16 ½” bullhead.
