Taste of Coshocton: Tickets are now available for the 15th annual Taste of Coshocton on Aug. 8 at the United Way office on 402 Main St. Enjoy generous samples tastes from local vendors. Adult tickets are $12. Tickets for children under 12 are $6. A raffle drawing for 14 gift baskets valued at over $150 each will take place. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and available at any partner agency.
Arts Homecoming: The Pomerene Center will have an Arts Homecoming on Aug. 9 – 10 featuring the David Schubach Quintet, Coshocton Art Prize, and parkFEST.
Antique Flea Market: The last Coshocton Antique Flea Market of the season will be Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be in Commercial Building 2 at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds, 707 Kenilworth Ave. The event is free to attend and parking is available at the South 8th St. entrance. Items include glassware, furniture, vintage jewelry, advertising items, artifacts, books, local yearbooks, crocks, handbags, and more. Celebrate 100 years: Come celebrate the 100th year of the former West Lafayette movie theater building known as the Victory Center Church at 112 W. Main St., West Lafayette. There will be a picnic in Burt Park on Sunday, Aug. 11 after the 11 a.m. church service. Everyone who at one time used or visited the building are welcome. Bring a covered dish and any old photos. All are welcome to the 11 a.m. church service.
Book Signing: Authors Pete and Marie Madsen will have a concert and book signing at their home at 47863 TR 202, Coshocton on Sunday, Aug. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. Barefoot McCoy will perform, and cost is $10 per family/couple. Parking is free. Bring your own chair or blankets. Admission to event will also include one signed book by the author.
Saturday Night at the Movies: The Pomerene Center will have a Saturday Night at the Movies on Aug. 17. Showing Pixar’s “Coco”.
GAR Bean Dinner: The 152nd Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Bean Dinner will be at McElwee Park in New Castle on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Church service at 10 a.m. Flag raising at 11:15 a.m. Music by Brad Fuller and the Walhonding Rube Band. Chris Hart, storyteller and historian, will also be there.
Block Party: The 11th annual Chestnut Crossing Block Party will be Sunday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 2521 Glenview Way, Coshocton. There will be horse rides, slushies, bounce house, carnival games, face painting, fire truck, petting zoo, music, dunk tank, food, and more. If you can bring a covered dish, it would be appreciated. Bluegrass Music: Three Rivers Bluegrass Music and Relay for Life Team Alana presents bluegrass music at Coshocton Village Inn and Suites, 115 N. Water St., on SR 541 beside McDonald’s, once a month. Admission is $7 per person; those 12 and under, no charge. Featured band is from 7 – 9:15 p.m. Acoustic jam is 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. For information, call 740-498-8456. Bad Boyz Mud Bog: The next Bad Boyz Mud Bog of the season, 44840 SR 541, Coshocton, will be Saturday, Aug. 24. Gates open at 10 a.m. Event starts at 1 p.m. General admission is $5. Free admission to those infant to three years old. Vehicle admission is $20. One hundred percent payout to first, second, and third place. Car Show: The Plainfield United Methodist Church, 101 Church St., Plainfield, will have its annual Chicken Barbeque and Shades of the Past Car Show on Saturday, Aug. 24. Car show registration of $10 per car will begin at 3 p.m. with car show and meal beginning at 5 p.m. Car show awards will be presented at 7 p.m. Menu includes chicken, homemade potato salad, applesauce, roll, dessert, and beverage. Price is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Air-conditioned dining hall.
Peaches Pub N Grub: On Aug. 24, Gary Rahn Acoustic will perform at 7 p.m. and on Aug. 31, it will be Metal Band Night at 8:30 p.m.
Flat Broke Run: The third annual Flat Broke Run for Kids will be Sept. 14 at the Army Navy, 628 Walnut St., Coshocton. There will be a veterans’ benefit breakfast at 9 a.m. Registration will be at 10 a.m. All vehicles welcome. First bike out at 11 a.m. Last bike out at 1 p.m. Last bike in at 6 p.m. Silent auction, tattoo contest, door prizes, raffles, and live music. $20 per rider, $30 per couple. Meeting Rescheduled: The CCRPC Executive Committee meeting that was to be held on Monday, July 8 in the Commissioners Conference Room at 3:30 p.m. has been canceled. The next scheduled CCRPC executive meeting will be Monday, Aug. 12.
Council Meeting: The Village of West Lafayette will have a finance meeting on Monday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular village council meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers. They will have a public safety fire meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
Election Meeting: The Coshocton County Board of Elections will have their next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 8:30 a.m.
Tie-Dye and Reverse Tie-Dye: On Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. come out and try your hand at tie-dying and reverse tie-dying. Dye products and supplies will be furnished; however, youth are asked to bring a solid color shirt to reverse dye and a white t-shirt, socks or pillow case. Some shirts will be on hand, but sizes are not guaranteed. Plan accordingly. All classes are held at the Coshocton Community Center. They are free and geared toward children in kindergarten through eighth grade; however, space is limited. Free Family Law Clinic: There will be a free family law clinic for Coshocton County throughout the year. This advice clinic is for low-income individuals. Sign in is at 1:45 p.m. the day of the clinic and is limited to 16 qualified individuals. It will be held at the Coshocton County Juvenile Court, 426 Main St., Coshocton. Season Tickets: Ridgewood reserve seats and past season pass holders, tickets are now on sale. Reminder: The first two weeks will be for past seat holders only. Available at administration office, 301 S. Oak St. Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All remaining seats will open to the public on Monday, Aug. 19. Sale hours will then be daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Single adult season pass $100, single student season pass $75, all season family pass $200, varsity football pass only $30.
Coshocton Softball Players Association: Men’s Fall League starts Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday for seven weeks. Men’s is $325 for seven weeks. ASA Co-Ed Fall League will run Sundays from 2 to 3 p.m. starting Aug. 18. Women’s nights and times to be determined. See “Hammer” to sign up. Co-Ed is $280 for seven weeks. Golf Scramble: The Coshocton Fatherhood Initiative has rescheduled their annual four-man golf scramble for Saturday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette. Cost is $200 per team. There will be an opportunity to win a 2019 Jeep compass, a 90’ putt for $200, raffles, silent auction, 50/50, hole prizes, and skins/mulligans. Special Board Meeting: The Ridgewood Board of Education will have a special board meeting on Monday, Aug. 12 at 7 a.m. in the administration building to discuss RMS principal, certified staff transfers, classified staff assignments, unpaid leave of absence, and the stadium fieldhouse and locker room project.
Board Meeting: Coshocton County JVSD will have their next board meeting in the Board of Education Conference Room, 23640 Airport Rd., on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 a.m.
40th Reunion: The River View Class of 1979 is having its 40th reunion on Saturday, Aug. 24 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, Coshocton. A $16 dinner reservation include two-meat buffet with potatoes, vegetables, roll, and coffee, tea, and water. If you just want to come and hang out with no dinner, please arrive after 6 p.m., and please place something in the donation container to help with rental cost and after-dinner appetizers. Community Picnic: New Moscow United Methodist Church will have its 15th annual community picnic at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9 on the church lawn. Meat, soft drinks, and table service will be provided. Bring a covered dish and lawn chair. There will be a hayride and activities for the kids.
Special Music: Roscoe United Methodist Church, 475 High St., Coshocton, will have special music each week during the summer months. The next summer special music of the season will be Bee Lehner, Beth Nelson, Cathy Cox, and Judy Martine on Sunday, Aug. 11. Church begins outside in the shelter at 8:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.
Helping Hands: Conesville United Methodist Church, 196 State Street, Conesville, will have Helping Hands on the third Thursday of each month from 6 – 6:30 p.m. The next distribution date will be Aug. 15.
Ice Cream Party: Tenth annual community ice cream party and wiener roast will be in the side yard of Conesville United Methodist Church, Friday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. There will be fire rings for roasting and ice cream for tasting. School Supply Drive: The 17th annual Women of Witness “Helping Hands” School Supply Drive will be Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Word Worship Center on the corner of Eighth and Orange Streets from 1 to 3 p.m. They are now accepting school supplies or monetary donations to provide assistance to families with kids going back to school. Located in the basement of the Coshocton Public Library and operated by the Friends of the Library. All proceeds benefit the library, the West Lafayette Branch, and the bookmobile. Adventure 101: Stained Glass, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Thursday, Aug. 8, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.: After talking a little about stained glass, you will have the opportunity to make your own glass masterpiece! We’ll enjoy a special themed snack and activity. This program is for children in grades 3 to 6. No registration is required.
Coffee Club, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Monday, Aug. 12, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Join us for the summer reading edition of Coffee Club as we hear the story of Annie Jump Cannon. Working at Harvard Observatory, she developed a system for classifying stars that is still used today. She manually classified more stars in a lifetime than anyone else, with a total of around 350,000 stars. Senior adults 55 and over are invited to join us for a hot cup of coffee and enlightening conversation. We explore a different topic each month: Armchair travel, history, biography, art, literature, popular culture, and more. Join us for the fun and fellowship. Bring a friend!
