Local Events
Yoga in the Roses: Clary Gardens is pleased to host Yoga in the Roses. Kristin Cheney from Yoga Intent will be teaching outdoor yoga classes on Wednesdays in July at 5 p.m. These classes are great for any skill level and are family friendly. Participants are asked to bring bug spray and a yoga mat if they have one. If you don’t have a yoga mat, a beach towel, outdoor blanket, or rug works just fine! Each class will run for an hour and will take place in the Clary Gardens Rose Garden. The classes are free and open to the public. A donation of $5 is encouraged. Band Concert Series: The Coshocton Community Band Concert Series, with guest bands and musicians, will be held through June and July on Fridays at 7 p.m. on the Coshocton court square. Bring a chair. Rain venue is the Salvation Army gym. The theme for July 5 will be Bright Light s and Big City.
Jazz on the Lawn: The next Jazz on the Lawn Series will be July 12 at the Pomerene Center at 7:30 p.m. featuring Muskingum Jazz Group.
Saturday Night at the Movies: The Pomerene Center will have a Saturday Night at the Movies on July 13 and Aug. 17. The July movies will be Charlie Chaplin silent movie night featuring “The Immigrant” and “The Bank”. Live music and original scores by David Schubach. August movie will be Pixar’s “Coco”.
Antique Flea Market: The next Coshocton Antique Flea Market of the season will be at the tractor pull on Saturday, July 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be in Commercial Building 2 at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds, 707 Kenilworth Ave. The event is free to attend and parking is available at the South 8th St. entrance. Items include glassware, furniture, vintage jewelry, advertising items, artifacts, books, local yearbooks, crocks, handbags, and more. Bluegrass Music: Three Rivers Bluegrass Music and Relay for Life Team Alana presents bluegrass music at Coshocton Village Inn and Suites, 115 N. Water St., on SR 541 beside McDonald’s, once a month. Admission is $7 per person; those 12 and under, no charge. Featured band is from 7 – 9:15 p.m. Acoustic jam is 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. For information, call 740-498-8456. Gospel Event: Butterfly Productions Unlimited LLC will host “A Divine and Powerful Gospel Escape” on July 13 at the Rotary Pavilion at the fairgrounds. There will be multiple national recording artists performing. They would like local Christian artists and church musicians, dancers, and singers to be a part of the event as well. Teen International Festival: There will be a Teen International Festival in the Rotary Pavilion at the fairgrounds on Saturday, July 13 from noon to 4 p.m. Free admission, free games and prizes, free food, music, guest speakers and more. Barbeque and Music: Newcomerstown Historical Society is having a chicken barbeque and bluegrass music jam at the Olde Main Street Museum, 213 West Canal Street, Newcomerstown July 19 at 4 p.m. The Chestnut Hill Bluegrass Band will headline the music portion of the event and musicians are welcome to come join in the fun. The menu includes half a chicken, potato salad, baked beans, roll, drink and a dessert. Tickets are available in advance only and can be picked up at the Olde Main Street Museum Box Office on Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sundays 2 – 4 p.m. Tickets are $10. Water Mania Fever: On Saturday, July 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. youth are invited to go crazy mixing and making bubbles and bubble wands. A bubble blowing contest, go fish for fish and other simple carnival-style games will round out the wet and wild activities. Youth will also mix up and make their own sidewalk chalk to be used at home. Come ready to get a little wet and messy. All classes are held at the Coshocton Community Center. They are free and geared toward children in kindergarten through eighth grade; however, space is limited. Family Fun: The Pomerene Center will host a family fun, music, and art night on Thursday, July 25 at 6 p.m. at the artPARK. July 25 will feature funk night with Flogo Shaggins.
West Lafayette Homecoming: Get geared up July 25-27 for the West Lafayette Homecoming! The theme this year is “Put Me in Coach!” The queen contestants will beautify Burt Park Thursday evening. Rides, food stands, games, bands, prize drawings, and the Homecoming Parade are Friday’s highlights. Stories and pet parades in the park, rides, food stands, games, bands, prize drawings, and fireworks are on Saturday’s agenda. Bad Boyz Mud Bog: The next Bad Boyz Mud Bog of the season, 44840 SR 541, Coshocton, will be Saturday, July 27. Gates open at 10 a.m. Event starts at 1 p.m. General admission is $5. Free admission to those infant to three years old. Vehicle admission is $20. One hundred percent payout to first, second, and third place. One More Rep: Epic Fitness Personal Training will have an epic overload strength competition, One More Rep, on Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at Burt Park in West Lafayette. New Hours: The Coshocton County Title Office is now open Saturday mornings, 8 a.m. to noon for your convenience. Financial Statement Available: The annual unaudited financial statement for the city of Coshocton for the year ending Dec. 31, 2018 is complete and on file in the office of Sherry A. Kirkpatrick, Coshocton City Auditor, 760 Chestnut St. The report is available for public review and inspection from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.
Farmers Market: The West Lafayette Farmers Market will be in a new location this year, at the corner of East Main and North Orchard St. The market will be open every Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. June through September.
Free Food: Mid-Ohio Foodbank will have free food drop off on Wednesday July 3, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Canal Lewisville Church Shelter.
Village Council Meeting: The next West Lafayette Village Council meeting will be July 8 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers. There will be a finance meeting held at 6:30 p.m.
Kamp Kiwanis: The Coshocton Kiwanis Club is sponsoring a summer day camp July 8 – 12 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for ages five through 12 at Kids America, 1600 Otsego Ave. Limited to the first 100 to register. Special Board Meeting: Coshocton Metropolitan Housing Authority is having a special board meeting on July 11 at 5:30 to be held at 823 Magnolia Street in the Family Center. The purpose of this special meeting is to obtain board approval to submit the 2016-2017 audit.

5K Walk/Run: Red, White, and Run, the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Coshocton 5K fundraiser, will be Saturday, July 13 at Lake Park. Cost is $40. All pre-registrations include a free t-shirt. Garden Program: Clary Gardens is once again teaming up with the Coshocton County Master Gardener Volunteers to provide kids ages 8-12 with an awesome two-day program as they explore themes related to gardens. Each day will start with a nature walk. The day will continue with small activities and listening to the Master Gardener teachers. The day will end with working on their craft, which will be a bug house that will stay in the Children’s Garden for people to see. This program is free and will run from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 18 and July 19. We will not be providing food, so please make sure they eat before they come. The Show Must Go On: The Warsaw Lion’s Club will be having auditions for solo and group numbers for their 62nd Annual “Music and Comedy Show” that takes place in November. The auditions will be Monday, Aug. 5 starting at 6:30 p.m. at River View High School. This year’s theme is “Memories in the Making” so please choose songs accordingly. Free Family Law Clinic: There will be a free family law clinic for Coshocton County throughout the year. This advice clinic is for low-income individuals. Sign in is at 1:45 p.m. the day of the clinic and is limited to 16 qualified individuals. It will be held at the Coshocton County Juvenile Court, 426 Main St., Coshocton. Class Reunion: Coshocton High School class of 1974 will have their 45th class reunion on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Raven’s Glenn Winery. Please arrive at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Cost is $28. A picture will be taken at 7 p.m. and games will start at 7:30 p.m.

Special Music: Roscoe United Methodist Church, 475 High St., Coshocton, will have special music each week during the summer months. The next summer special music of the season will be Michael Hammond, vocalist, on Sunday July 7. Church begins outside in the shelter at 8:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.
Worship Time: Tyndal United Methodist Church, 18091 TR 284, will have worship at 8:30 a.m. starting July 14.
Helping Hands: Conesville United Methodist Church, 196 State Street, Conesville, will have Helping Hands on the third Thursday of each month from 6 – 6:30 p.m. The next distribution date will be July 18.
Ice Cream Social: Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, US 36 and CR 23, Coshocton, will have an ice cream social on Thursday, July 18 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will include hot dogs, coneys, shredded chicken, sloppy joes, baked beans, homemade noodles, cole slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad, and drinks. Summer Kids Camp: Chili Crossroads Bible Church will have a summer kids camp this year. Cost is $75 per week. Grandparent Connection Table: The Grandparent Connection Table will meet every last Wednesday of the month from 6 – 7 p.m. in the parlor of the West Lafayette United Methodist Church (Union Avenue Entrance). A meal and childcare provided as well as a time to share in community around the table. Write-On Writers: Coshocton’s Write-On Writers Guild will meet Monday, July 8 at 6 p.m. in Coshocton Public Library’s Small Meeting Room, 655 Main St., Coshocton. We welcome anyone who is interested in writing poetry, short stories, novels, letters and essays. Our writing prompt will be parades and fireworks.
SWCD Meeting: The Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District will meet July 10 at 8 p.m. for a monthly board meeting. Meetings are held at the office, 724 S. Seventh St. Meetings are always held the second Wednesday of the month. Schedules are subject to change.

Unite Coshocton County: Unite Coshocton County will have a “Faith on the Field” Community Worship Service at Ridgewood High School stadium on Sunday, July 28 at 10 a.m.
School Supply Drive: The 17th annual Women of Witness “Helping Hands” School Supply Drive will be Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Word Worship Center on the corner of Eighth and Orange Streets from 1 to 3 p.m. They are now accepting school supplies or monetary donations to provide assistance to families with kids going back to school. School supplies can be placed in the box outside their office at 305 Main St., Coshocton. Monetary donations can be mailed to Women of Witness, PO Box 742, Coshocton.

Lease an American Flag: The Village of West Lafayette will offer a lease of an American flag from the West Lafayette Rotary and the West Lafayette Lions Club for $25. A 3×5 foot flag on a 10 foot staff will be placed in a plastic anchor pipe buried in your front yard. Flags will be displayed on patriotic holidays. Volunteers Needed: The Newcomerstown Historical Society is seeking new members and volunteers to act as tour guides and to help out on other tasks at the Olde Main Street Museum and Temperance Tavern. All volunteers will train for the task you choose. If you are retired or just have extra time a few hours each month, please contact Marianne at 740-498-5636. Dance and Country Western Couples Classes: Second and fourth Wednesday of the month, beginning line dancing – 5:30 p.m.; couples class – 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5 each. Coffee Club, Coshocton Public Library, Large Meeting Room, Monday, July 8, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Join us for the summer reading edition of coffee club as we hear the story of Annie Jump Cannon. Working at Harvard Observatory, she developed a system for classifying stars that is still used today. She manually classified more stars in a lifetime than anyone else, with a total of around 350,000 stars. Senior adults 55 and older are invited to join us for a hot cup of coffee and enlightening conversation. We explore a different topic each month: Armchair travel, history, biography, art, literature, popular culture, and more. Join us for the fun and fellowship. Bring a friend.

View the Moon! Summer Reading Program – A Universe of Stories, Coshocton Public Library, Outside the Library, Monday, July 8, Tuesday, July 9, Wednesday, July 10, 8:30 – 10 p.m.: A local amateur astronomer will bring his telescope and set it up so that patrons can view the landing site of the Apollo. The dates and times have been carefully chosen so that the viewing will be during the same lunar phase of the moon as the original landing. Additionally there will be special posters and a scale of the landing on display. For school-aged children, teens, and adults. Outback Ray’s Amazing Animal Show Summer Reading Program – A Universe of Stories, Roscoe United Methodist Church, 475 High St., Coshocton, Tuesday, July 9, 6:30 – 7:15 p.m.: Outback Ray is one of the most popular entertainers ever to visit Coshocton. This hands-on show is extremely entertaining for kids of all ages. Outback Ray brings 10 to 15 captive-born, exotic animals to the show. Each animal is handled daily to ensure the safety of the audience, as well as the animals. Don’t miss this show, specially brought in from Cleveland! Registration is not required. To ensure that there is plenty of room for all, this program will be held off-site at Roscoe United Methodist Church.

That includes paperback and hardcover books, DVDs, audio books, magazines, and more. There are no limits on purchase quantity. Gift certificates will be available for purchase. Proceeds of the book sale benefit library programs for all ages. The sale will be open to the public for cash sales only.
