Local Events
Yoga in the Roses: Clary Gardens is pleased to host Yoga in the Roses. Kristin Cheney from Yoga Intent will be teaching outdoor yoga classes on Wednesdays in July at 5 p.m. These classes are great for any skill level and are family friendly. Participants are asked to bring bug spray and a yoga mat if they have one. If you don’t have a yoga mat, a beach towel, outdoor blanket, or rug works just fine! Each class will run for an hour and will take place in the Clary Gardens Rose Garden. The classes are free and open to the public. A donation of $5 is encouraged. Stretch and let the sweet smell of rugosa roses surround you! Please register for a spot by emailing Kristin Cheney at kristincheney@yahoo.com. You can register for one class or all of them.
Band Concert Series: The last Coshocton Community Band Concert of the season will be Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. on the Coshocton court square. Bring a chair. Rain venue is the Salvation Army gym. The theme will be Lollapalooza.
Park Social: The 53rd annual River View Community Park Social will be Aug 2 – 4. Friday, the pool will be open from 8 to 10 p.m. $3 admission. Saturday is Bingo at the large shelter from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday begins at 11:30 a.m. when the chicken barbecue will start. At noon, McFarland Martial Arts School will give a demonstration, the Walhonding Rube Band will play from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Chestnut Ridge will perform from 1:30 to 3 p.m. $53 coin toss at the pool at 2 p.m. Kids Watermelon Eating Contest at 3 p.m. Beave Run Duck Race at 3:30 p.m.
Peaches Pub N Grub: On Aug. 3, Nite Train Band will perform at 8:30 p.m. at Peaches Pub N Grub. On Aug. 24, Gary Rahn Acoustic will perform at 7 p.m. and on Aug. 31, it will be Metal Band Night at 8:30 p.m.
Piano Concert: Annie Takeuchik Kinner will present a piano concert at Roscoe United Methodist Church on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. There is no charge, but a freewill offering will be taken that will go toward Standing Oaks of East Central Ohio, a non-profit organization seeking to provide a safe, clean, temporary place for homeless people while transitioning from housing instability to housing stability.
Taste of Coshocton: Tickets are now available for the 15th annual Taste of Coshocton on Aug. 8 at the United Way office on 402 Main St. Enjoy generous samples tastes from local vendors. Adult tickets are $12. Tickets for children under 12 are $6. A raffle drawing for 14 gift baskets valued at over $150 each will take place. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and available at any partner agency.
Arts Homecoming: The Pomerene Center will have an Arts Homecoming on Aug. 9 – 10 featuring the David Schubach Quintet, Coshocton Art Prize, and parkFEST.
Antique Flea Market: The last Coshocton Antique Flea Market of the season will be Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be in Commercial Building 2 at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds, 707 Kenilworth Ave. The event is free to attend and parking is available at the South 8th St. entrance. Items include glassware, furniture, vintage jewelry, advertising items, artifacts, books, local yearbooks, crocks, handbags, and more. Celebrate 100 years: Come celebrate the 100th year of the former West Lafayette movie theater building known as the Victory Center Church at 112 W. Main St., West Lafayette. There will be a picnic in Burt Park on Sunday, Aug. 11 after the 11 a.m. church service. Everyone who at one time used or visited the building are welcome. Bring a covered dish and any old photos. All are welcome to the 11 a.m. church service.
Book Signing: Authors Pete and Marie Madsen will have a concert and book signing at their home at 47863 TR 202, Coshocton on Sunday, Aug. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. Barefoot McCoy will perform, and cost is $10 per family/couple. Parking is free. Bring your own chair or blankets. Admission to event will also include one signed book by the author.
Saturday Night at the Movies: The Pomerene Center will have a Saturday Night at the Movies on Aug. 17. Showing Pixar’s “Coco”.
Block Party: The 11th annual Chestnut Crossing Block Party will be Sunday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 2521 Glenview Way, Coshocton. There will be horse rides, slushies, bounce house, carnival games, face painting, fire truck, petting zoo, music, dunk tank, food, and more. If you can bring a covered dish, it would be appreciated. Bluegrass Music: Three Rivers Bluegrass Music and Relay for Life Team Alana presents bluegrass music at Coshocton Village Inn and Suites, 115 N. Water St., on SR 541 beside McDonald’s, once a month. Admission is $7 per person; those 12 and under, no charge. Featured band is from 7 – 9:15 p.m. Acoustic jam is 9:30 – 10:30 p.m. For information, call 740-498-8456. Bad Boyz Mud Bog: The next Bad Boyz Mud Bog of the season, 44840 SR 541, Coshocton, will be Saturday, Aug. 24. Gates open at 10 a.m. Event starts at 1 p.m. General admission is $5. Free admission to those infant to three years old. Vehicle admission is $20. One hundred percent payout to first, second, and third place. Flat Broke Run: The third annual Flat Broke Run for Kids will be Sept. 14 at the Army Navy, 628 Walnut St., Coshocton. There will be a veterans’ benefit breakfast at 9 a.m. Registration will be at 10 a.m. All vehicles welcome. First bike out at 11 a.m. Last bike out at 1 p.m. Last bike in at 6 p.m. Silent auction, tattoo contest, door prizes, raffles, and live music. $20 per rider, $30 per couple. Financial Statement Available: The annual unaudited financial statement for the city of Coshocton for the year ending Dec. 31, 2018 is complete and on file in the office of Sherry A. Kirkpatrick, Coshocton City Auditor, 760 Chestnut St. The report is available for public review and inspection from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.
Recycling Bins: Due to the annual Warsaw Park Social and Chicken BBQ, the recycling bins at the River View Community Park in Warsaw will be temporarily moved to the Warsaw EMS Station from July 26 until Aug. 5. Budget Commission: The Coshocton County Budget Commission will be meeting at the County Services Building, Room 145, 724 S. 7th Street on Monday, Aug. 5, at 5:30 p.m. with the corporations, townships and fire districts to discuss 2020 budgets. The Show Must Go On: The Warsaw Lion’s Club will be having auditions for solo and group numbers for their 62nd Annual “Music and Comedy Show” that takes place in November. The auditions will be Monday, Aug. 5 starting at 6:30 p.m. at River View High School. This year’s theme is “Memories in the Making” so please choose songs accordingly. Free Family Law Clinic: There will be a free family law clinic for Coshocton County throughout the year. This advice clinic is for low-income individuals. Sign in is at 1:45 p.m. the day of the clinic and is limited to 16 qualified individuals. It will be held at the Coshocton County Juvenile Court, 426 Main St., Coshocton. Meeting Rescheduled: The CCRPC Executive Committee meeting that was to be held on Monday, July 8 in the Commissioners Conference Room at 3:30 p.m. has been canceled. The next scheduled CCRPC executive meeting will be Monday, Aug. 12.
Council Meeting: The Village of West Lafayette will have a finance meeting on Monday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular village council meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers. They will have a public safety fire meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.
Election Meeting: The Coshocton County Board of Elections will have their next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 8:30 a.m.
Tie-Dye and Reverse Tie-Dye: On Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. come out and try your hand at tie-dying and reverse tie-dying. Dye products and supplies will be furnished; however, youth are asked to bring a solid color shirt to reverse dye and a white t-shirt, socks or pillow case. Some shirts will be on hand, but sizes are not guaranteed. Plan accordingly. All classes are held at the Coshocton Community Center. They are free and geared toward children in kindergarten through eighth grade; however, space is limited. Special Music: Roscoe United Methodist Church, 475 High St., Coshocton, will have special music each week during the summer months. The next summer special music of the season will be Erin Wilson on clarinet and Logan Lawrence, pianist, on Sunday, Aug. 4. Write-On Writers: Coshocton’s Write-On Writers Guild will meet Monday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m., in the library’s small meeting room, 655 Main St., Coshocton. We welcome anyone who is interested in writing poetry, short stories, novels, letters and essays. Our writing prompt will be “Learning to Drive.”
Women in Agriculture Dinner: Ohio State University Extension Coshocton County will host a Women in Agriculture Dinner on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Raven’s Glenn Winery, 56183 Co Rd 143, West Lafayette. The cost to register is $20, which includes the meal and program. School Supply Drive: The 17th annual Women of Witness “Helping Hands” School Supply Drive will be Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Word Worship Center on the corner of Eighth and Orange Streets from 1 to 3 p.m. They are now accepting school supplies or monetary donations to provide assistance to families with kids going back to school. SWCD Meeting: The Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District will meet Aug. 14 at 8 p.m. for a monthly board meeting. Meetings are held at the office, 724 S. Seventh St. Meetings are always held the second Wednesday of the month. Schedules are subject to change.

Coffee Club, Coshocton Public Library: Large Meeting Room, Monday, Aug. 12, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Join us for the summer reading edition of Coffee Club as we hear the story of Annie Jump Cannon. Working at Harvard Observatory, she developed a system for classifying stars that is still used today. She manually classified more stars in a lifetime than anyone else, with a total of around 350,000 stars. Senior adults 55 and over are invited to join us for a hot cup of coffee and enlightening conversation.
