Congressman Gibbs gives statement on Shinseki’s resignation

| June 5, 2014

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Gibbs released the following statement after Secretary Shinseki announced his resignation:

“First, I would like to thank Secretary Shinseki for his 38 years of military service to our country. Although, his resignation is the first step in fixing the VA, accountability remains at the forefront. With an outdated system and structural flaws within the agency, our veterans have been unable to receive the care they deserve. Reforms must be made throughout all VA clinics in our country to ensure that this will never happen again. The culture of mismanagement that has been perpetuated by bureaucrats has grown within this agency and should not be tolerated. I hope that we will be able to make sure that our nation’s heroes receive the care they were promised. These men and women have defended our nation time and again and they deserve the highest quality medical care available.”
