Coshocton Choirs chili dinner to be held at Coshocton Elementary

| October 26, 2017

COSHOCTON – The fifth annual Great American Chili Dinner, Cook-Off, and Auction will be Saturday, Nov. 4 at noon in the Coshocton Elementary School cafeteria. Sponsored by the Coshocton Vocal Music Department in partnership with the Coshocton Choir Parent Organization, a 501c3 non-profit organization, this chili dinner and cook-off raises money for the Coshocton choirs and goes toward whatever trip they take in the spring and for travel and production expenses.

“We started at the high school and outgrew it,” said Mike Blowers, director of choral studies and activities. “We had more people entering the chili contest and we wanted to provide entertainment and we needed stage space. We wanted enough space for the auction, so we outgrew the high school. It was a good problem to have.”

This is the second year at Coshocton Elementary.

“We’ve had wonderful support from the school district as far as the food service,” said Blowers. “They are tremendous in preparing the meal for us.”

The dinner consists of chili, grilled cheese sandwich, salad, drinks, and dessert. Each ticket holder will receive three voting tickets to vote for your favorite chili or your top three picks. There are usually six to 10 contestants each year and as of time of print, there were four committed to the cook-off, which is coordinated each year by Tammy Mencer. A panel of judges will also chose a favorite chili for the Judge’s Choice Award.

A live auction will be held during the dinner as well coordinated by Teresa Ott. Entertainment will be presented by the Coshocton School Choirs directed by Mike Blowers, Rick Earley, and Aaron Mencer.

Pre-sale tickets are encouraged and can be obtained from any Coshocton school choir member or at the Coshocton County Beacon office, 226 Main St., Coshocton. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for adults, and $25 for immediate family. Tickets will also be available at the door and cost will be $6 for students, $10 for adults, and $30 for immediate family. First come, first served.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and serving begins at noon. At 11:45 a.m., the choir members will begin the event with the singing of the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.

The next concert for the choirs will be Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. in McKinley Auditorium during the district-wide Christmas concert.
