Coshocton City Schools approve bid for field house project
COSHOCTON – On Thursday, June 20, the Coshocton City Schools Board approved the bid of local contractor Hathaway, Inc. to begin a major field house project at Stewart Field.
“The school board and I are very happy and excited that a local contractor will be doing this project for us,” said Tim Fortney, athletic director for Coshocton. “It’s always better when we can support local businesses, as they support us.”
The project will begin soon with the demolition of two buildings at the field. “We have no way of knowing how long it will take, as there are things beyond our control, such as the weather. We hope to have it completed by the end of September. Some parts of it may be open and ready to start the season.”
The new field house will be a 5,000 square foot building that will have a new concession stand, new restrooms (including a family one), varsity football locker room, boys and girls varsity soccer locker rooms and an athletic trainer room. “This is a continuation of the improvements we wanted to make at Stewart Field,” said Fortney. “It was needed as sometimes we have 100 athletes practicing there.”
The $550,000 cost is being paid by the district’s capital improvement fund, local foundations and the generous support of local businesses and the community. Fortney said he feels blessed to live in a community that supports the athletes and local school projects. “We are excited to move forward with the project.”
