Coshocton Hot Air Balloon Festival is this weekend
The Coshocton Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held at the Coshocton County Fairgrounds starting Thursday, June 6 and running through Saturday, June 8. The festival is free and parking is available at the fairgrounds.
Besides balloon launches, the festival also has kiddie rides, vendors, live music and fair food. The committee would like to remind everyone that there is no ATM on the grounds. Some vendors may accept cards, but bringing cash is the best idea.
The festival opens at 4 p.m. on Thursday with vendors and rides. There is a wristband special of $15 from 4-9 p.m. that evening for the rides. Tethered balloon rides are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There is a $20 fee and this money is donated to the FPC Community Connections Fund. For the tethered rides, the balloon lifts between 20’ – 50’ off the ground but does not launch. These are on a first come, first serve basis and the pilot has final say on whether to lift off. Guidelines for those wishing to take a tethered ride can be found on the Coshocton Hot Air Balloon Festival Facebook page. Three balloons will launch at 7 p.m. that evening.
The midway will open at 11 a.m. on Friday with the opening ceremony at 5:45 p.m. Casie and Dave will perform at 6 p.m., followed by a balloon launch at 6:45 p.m. The balloon night glow will be at the fairgrounds at 9:15 p.m. The balloons are inflated for the night glow and lit up. They will stay tethered for the night glow.
On Saturday, there will be a balloon launch somewhere in the county to fly toward the fairgrounds. Tethered balloon rides will once again be offered from 7-8:30 a.m. that morning. The midway will open at 11 a.m. with a wristband special of $15 for rides between noon and 4 p.m. COSI activities will be available from 1-4:30 p.m. with a COSI science show presented at 5:15 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. Victorious KayBirds will perform, followed by another balloon launch at 6:45 p.m. Fireworks at 10 a.m. will close the festival.
Please remember – the times for all balloon launches are approximate. The balloon activities are weather dependent and safety is always the biggest concern. Even if the weather in Coshocton is nice, the surrounding areas could be unstable. All decisions about flying will be announced on the festival Facebook page.
