Coshocton Senior Center reopening services in April
The month of April will be a big month for the Coshocton Senior Center who had halted some services due to Covid-19 and put other services on hiatus during the winter months. For instance, produce pickup will resume with the first pickup day being Wednesday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
The center has continued to have the commodity supplemental food program, where they distribute a monthly food box for those in the program. Applications for the program are available at the senior center. To qualify for the program one must be a resident of Coshocton County, be age 60 or over, and meet income requirements. Those interested should contact the senior center to apply.
In addition, the center will have applications and vouchers available for the senior farmers’ market nutrition program for income eligible seniors. The vouchers will be good at any participating farmers’ markets.
Residents will be happy to know the senior center is reopening for lunch on Monday, April 4, but with limited seating. Masks will be required when entering and exiting the building or when individuals are not seated at tables. In addition, proof of vaccination is required. “These protocols are in place for the health and safety of our senior population. They will be evaluated on an ongoing basis, and may be subject to change,” said April George, co-director of the Coshocton Senior Center. There will also be limited seating available. Seniors are required to call the center at 740-622-4852 the day before they wish to attend, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and leave a message in order to make a reservation. The center will not take more than 50 reservations for any given day, and those who call after 50 reservations have been made will be placed on a waiting list for that day. Doors will open at noon and lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m.
The center will continue to have meals available for pickup between 11:30 a.m. and noon, and they will also continue to provide home delivered meals, both of which have continued throughout the pandemic.
“No other activities will be going on at this time, as we attempt to ease back into things at the senior center,” George said. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during this transitional period.”
